I blasted #1 ring lands on my original motor, although they were still there when it was disassembled. You could just pull the piece away from the piston. No damage to the cylinder wall though.

Wait a second...the turbine wheel wasnt munched up by the ring land puking out of your cylinder?

Was the turbo replaced after this huge compression loss happened?

That is ugly. Looks like the Ty motor plus mine had rods that looked like bannanas and a bent crank.

Stab it and steer it
I have a couple of guesses. Cracked on install. Knock.

What about the other bad cyls? Take a close look at these pistons checking for cracked skirts. Hard tellin’ where the piece is. Why there’s no damage evident to the valves or head is a real puzzle.

Keep us posted.

The skirts were pretty discolored but I did not look close enough to see cracks. I'll check again.
The turbo impeller looked fine. This still blows me away (bad pun).
I think the previous owner of the motor had a bad intercooler pump and did not realize it, hence the detonation.
We'll see what the machine shop says. Hopefully I the damage is minimal.
