most common water leak?

where is the most common spot on the body that would leak water into the interior. We had some good rain here and i came into a puddle in my driver side floor. Also my passenger side is usually damp but i wanna fix this all before rust becomes a problem. Any help?

only thing i dont understand is, the truck hasnt moved in a month and when it was up on a lift we didnt see any holes in the floorpan . this things got me puzzled i dont know where to start or begin. i just dont wanna come out and see goldfish floating along in there like a lazy river. Maybe a bad windsheild seal? or clogged drain holes?

check the weatherstripping around the doors and back window.make sure you have a good seal.

You could sit in the truck and have someone spray all the seams with a garden hose or take it to the car wash and watch for leaks. :drinking:

IF you have run any wiring through the fire wall,for say a boost gauge or f/p gauge or any other accessory that you made holes for, make sure the holes are sealed up good.
on my other truck i had water entry through a loose grommet for my boost gauge on the fire wall...sealed it,no leak
if it were a door seal or something you SHOULD be able to see where the water is running down the jam-

also,i dont know were it is,or if our trucks have it,but the heaterbox/evaporator for the ac must have a drain tube for condinsation that COULD leak into the cab if clogged or kinked...

thanks a bunch im gonna start checkin all ideas now.Then when fixed time for a new carpet this one is gonna get pulled up so i can dry everything correctly.

I just finished fixing a water leak that would soak the drivers floor. Its was a combination of the emergency brake cable grommet not being installed completely against the firewall, and also under the brake booster wads another grommet(forget for what) that was also leaking. The big wire connector block that goes through the firewall is another prob. For the electrical block you can spray some undercoating tar arouond all the edges of the connector where its joins with the firewall, it worked great and looked clean. Good luck.

might want to take the driver side kick panel off. there is an plastic cover there. maybe the seal went . or on the newer ones they use duck tape to cover the hole.

hehe, I bet money its coming from the firewall.

when it rains, water collects in the valley where the wiper motors are. Its suposed to drain out, but if it doesnt, it just sits there and rots out the fire wall.

My guess is you have a pin hole somewhere behind the dash.

Is there a way to fix this factory flaw? Drill your own drain holes?

That might not be your problem, you try to find it before guessing. Get a buddy to run some water at the wireblock at the firewal, or the e_brake cable that runs through, or anything else that runs through the firewall while you look with a light under the dash. Pull back the carpet if you have to. That would be the easiest way. Good luck.
