Well, if the module tested good out of the truck, then the problem must be the magnetic pickup inside?
I don't know Mike,I pretty much just tossed mine in the garbage when it let me down.

Oh can i tell if the distributor is getting a signal from the computer in the first place?
You already found that answer when you ran DM and it showed 0 rpm when you cranked it

Re: Need Help....Truck Wont start

Well, i called MSD this morning and told them my story, and it turns out the pick up is shot, and they gave me three options, get back with summit where i bought it from and have them exchange it, or i could send it directly to MSD to have it repaired under warranty, or MSD could send me a new pick up and i install it myself.

i told them i think the best solution would be to get a new unit thru summit, so i have to call them next.

They said since the module checked good do a resistance test on the pick, and i should have 4-500 ohms well my meter set on auto range just read o.l. so i got a 300 dollar hunk of billet junk thats going back to summit. Wonder if i can get them to pay the return shipping.

Im going to stick with this MSD unit one more time, and hopefully it will work out, but if not then back to a stocker i shall go.

I want to thank everybody for there help.

Re: Need Help....Truck Wont start

Well, just got off the phone with Summit and they are sending me a replacement overnight, will be here tommorow, and then i will throw the junk one in the box and they are going to set up UPS to come and get it sometime next week. Didnt have to front another dime, so im glad Summit stepped up and is taking care of the situtation.

Not that i was worried they wouldnt, just figured id have to front another 300 bucks i dont have till they get the bad one back.

Thanks again for everybodys help. Hopefully this thread will be permenatly dead from now on.

Re: Need Help....Truck Wont start

well the new distributor came this morning and well since its such a PITA to R&R the dis in these trucks, i just took all the guts out of the new one along with the new cap and rotor and swapped everything to the housing that was already in time and in my truck, took me 20 minutes at best and then went i went to fire it up the dam battery was dead, i think my 5 year old Optima red top is starting to give up the ghost. Anyways boosted it off my wifes ride and she fired right up and running better than it has in a month or more. Didnt even try and die after idleing for a few minutes, idled fine for along time.

I them rewired my fan with bigger guage wire, becasue i had to small on there the first time and the fan wasnt getting enough juice, so now its got an 8 ga power thru a 40amp fuse to the relay and 10ga from there to the fan and 14 ga from the factory IC pump wires to the relay. She is working like a champ, and reset my tables in tunerpro so the fan kicks in around 168 degreess, and if it actually got back down to 160 or so it woudl shut off, but before the fan kicks on the temp creeps to about 169-170 then comes back down and pretty much hovers around 165-167 while idling in the garage, should come down to 160 once going down the road with more cool air comming thru the front.

Now hopefully i wont have any more ignition problems. Still need to try and hook my digitial 6 back up and see if its really broke or it was just the old dis crapping out.
