Need help with leaky tci pan

I read the manual and it states to torque the trans pan down to 8lbs. I used a new gasket and a thick coating of permatex gasket sealant and torqued the bolts with lock washers down to 10lbs since my wrench doesn't have an 8lb setting. I also used blue locktite on all of the bolts and the bolts keep loosening up on their own within ~20 miles and then the pan starts to leak. Any suggestions?

its a type of silicone . works good but i dont like to use it on tranny pans . when you change the gasket did you clean the mateing serfaces really good ? i put mine on the same way and did it once and it did not leack or loosen

Are you still running the torque converter inspection plate? If so, is the front of the pan making contact with the inspection plate (leaking at the front)? I had to trim the front of my pan to clear the plate on my truck. Some folks get away with not having to but I wasn't one of them .

the surface was perfectly clean. The problem is the bolts keep coming out. Is 10lbs not enough torque? Maybe i should use red locktite.

no i am not running the cover. The pass side rear is the area that keeps leaking.

I have the same problem with that cover. the bolts always back out. try getting them tighter.

I dunno if this is the problem or not, but I was told that cast alum. are not the best choice as they are too rigid...they dont flex/seal to the trans. :dunno:

I definitely would NOT recommend using Red LocTite (262) for the pan bolts as you will have to heat them with a torch to get them out later... The blue LocTite (242) will be sufficient the key is to throughly degrease the holes in the transmission and the bolts themselves with brake cleaner or the like. I used *just* a gasket on mine in conjunction with stainless steel hardware and 242 Loctite and it has never leaked.

i did not torque the bolts with a torque wrench i just put them up with a ratchet and put them tight with no locktight

Lock washers have worked very well for me. No silicone or thread locker here.
