New Alarm System

I plan on replacing the old alarn system with a new one in my Ty. Presently I have a Clifford system (Avant 4) thats wired into my harness.....So, I will have to pay someone to remove the thing in favor of a new one. I need suggestions as to whats the best alarm system out there. Better yet, what system do you trust as a good one? I would like to keep the features of the old plus whatever else is available. I have to replace mine because the alarm has a mind of its own. Sometimes it wont respond to the remote. I like the thing but if it dies on me, my truck isnt going anywhere until its removed since they wired the system the way they did. Thanks for your suggestions...

I personally like the DEI products (Viper, Hornet, Clifford) but I'm a little biased since those are the ones I put in all day long.

Best suggestion: find a reputable, recognized brand. Pick the model that has the features you want. Do some homework/ask questions and have a professional, qualified installer put it in for you. Unless you have very good one (rare) near you, avoid Best Buy or Circuit City like the PLAGUE.

Also, unless it it a major concern for you, have them skip the starter kill feature. Our shop does not install a starter kill unless specifically asked to for one simple reason: if by some act of God, there is a total system failure - the vehicle will still be mobile. Diagnosing/repairing/bypassing a busted alarm in somebody's driveway is NO FUN. :rant:

Friends don't let friends put in their own stuff - can't tell you how many hack-jobs I've had to fix from people who figured they could just do it themselves. :roll:

compustar hands down best unit out there,no one can touch there range NO ONE i have installed just about every alarm and remote start for the past 15 years,and they stand behind there stuff 100 percent,i would do the spread spectrum alarm start combo.And i agree with the starter kill also.

Thanks....I appreciate the responses. If all goes well, I will be moving to SC in the near future. I can bring my nightmare to your shop. The system was installed by a "professional" shop however its just the way it was done (wired into the harness) that concerns me...

I couldn't agree more. I've had my compustar for 4yrs now and it's NEVER had a problem. The autostart/alarm/pager work for a solid mile, if it's flat than 1.5miles.

i sold a few to some guys on here and many to customers never had a problem.and they have built in turbo timer.

Thats great.....Not only do I need a new alarm system but I also need it installed....I just dont like the way it looks under my dash....I wont touch it....

how much typically is the CompuStar system? whats installation usually run? My Ty when I bought it had some alarm on it and was simple enough to disable by removing a wire from the battery..

it should take about 3 to 4 hours to do one the right way ,hide wires tape them etc ,people put alarms in so shitty,what good is it if someone breaks in the car and can just get under your dash in 2 sec and unplug it?
