new egine/trans now bad vibration!

I wouldn't recommend shifting into neutral again at those speeds. Trans internals should've only bumped up to 6K at that speed. I would not do this as a form of troubleshooting any more. Look at drag racing 101 in the "racing your brick" forum for why you shouldn't do that.

George I only put it in neutral and took my foot off the throttle to coast it. Just wanted to see if it was engine rpm causing the vibration or rotation speed of the drive line. I guess putting it back into gear is where the problem is? When I put it back into OD it returned back 3000 or so rpms. I won't be doing that again anway, I know its driveshaft or xfer case that's my problem now. Hoping by removing the backing plate on the energy susp trans mount will correct pinion angle.

No. If your going down the road at 60MPH and your engine speed is at 2100 say. When you shifted it into neutral, the sprag and the input drum take a engine rpmX2.5 increase so it goes from 2100 to 5250 instantly. This can balloon the reverse drum and the sun gear shell because there is NO load. If you do that at 3000 rpm you get an instant 7500 rpm increase in transmission internal components. You will break something doing that. It will just take ONE time. The other thing you are talking about is a neutral drop.

The one I'm griping about can cause internal parts to explode and possibly cause you injury. I really want you to find out what's wrong but don't want you to get hurt or damage the new waller trans trying to figure it out.

Re: new egine/trans now bad vibration!

This is pretty commonly known by drag racers doing full manual autos and many after market shifter assemblies have neutral lockout to prevent the nasty deal altogether. I've had some 700s apart where the owners would accidently do this when shifting from D to OD when racing. Overshoot and hit neutral. Reverse drum flares out and sun gear shell is donedy. This makes the sprag "float" and the internals it "held" now flare up in RPM. You start rebuilding a lot of "raced" 700s and you'll get to see some with the grooves in the case where the reverse drum hit it when it flared. It's ok to disagree with me. Just don't test the trans. It's not worth finding out if I was right or not.
The TH400/80e and the 60e/700 have different shifting characteristics (simpson vs 700r4 gearset arrangement). So the components directly affected are slightly different but the cause is the same. In that thread I go into the 80e more because those are really gonna be raced more than a 700.

Syclone#2960 good call! I took a look at that mount up on the lift and the transfer case was touching the trans tunnel. Just pulled out the top plate off the mount and no more vibration! Thanks so much!

Don W. Thanks for part # for the transfer case gasket, I will have it on wednesday and that should wrap up the current issues!

I'll pm you.

I probably shouldn't have used the word 'disagree'. I'm having one helluva time understanding this.

Let's stay on the 700 / 60. When the trans is shifted into neutral, the forward clutch is released.

You're saying that the drive wheels will now accelerate the reverse drum /shell to 2X the output shaft speed. (the ratio of the rear planetary). Please explain how it does this. I don't see how it can do this, as the low roller clutch will overrun, not allowing this 'speed up' to occur.

I'm not arguing. I just want to understand.

I DO see where the forward planetary sun gear will be accelerated, because it is such a small mass, but the sprag will overrun, not driving the clutch hub as I first thought above.

Dave

Is this the piece on the trans that was causing all that trouble.

I took that off today, after reading this post,my truck vibrated alittle bit not as bad as you were describing. The instructions said to use it. I might find something else to use this.
