New Engine Started!!!! Need help with FPR

OK, so I test fired the engine today and got it to run for a second then shut it off because I had just kinda mocked it all up to make sure it would crank. I finally got everything back together and started it up and it sounds beautiful. Maybe a degree or two out of time but damn it was smooth running for the first fire up. My question is what should the normal fuel pressure be? I have an adjustable FPR and I am running pretty rich right now so tomorrow I am gonna check the fuel pressure and dial it back a bit but I don't want to lean it out. Any help is appreciated.

If its all stock , you want the fuel pressure to be 43 with the vacuum line removed .

Awesome. Thank you for the reply. Time to go see what I can do about this leaky compression fitting on my transmission line and then get the fuel delivery sorted out. I may actually get to drive it today.

I checked the FP at the rail with a gauge and it is at 40ish with the vac line removed. Correct me if I am wrong but your check it with the truck NOT running? I.E. prime the fuel pump or do you actually run the vehicle.

Second question: I am still getting a code 45 which is a rich condition code. I have a new O2 sensor. So should I dial the FP back more? I guess I am confused since I have what appears to be correct FP but still running rich.

Any help is appreciated.

As far as my code 43 goes, I think I have figured it out. I may have over torqued the knock sensor and not put any teflon tape on it so I am guessing that it is sensing knock just because the engine is running. More on that after I take it out. Damn gremlins.

Great job post some pics of your new engine
do you have a wideband for checking the A/F ratio ..

Pics will come soon. Gotta finish up the details. So I pulled the knock sensor and teflon taped it, re-installed it and still have the code 43. I finally got the timing dialed in but I am still a little on the rich side.

Do I just adjust the fuel pressure regulator and cut the F/P some? How much is too much? I am at the 40-43psi area right now and still rich smelling. I don't have the rich mixture code.....yet.

Syclone22 I don't have the wideband. I have a A/F gauge.....sitting in a tote waiting for me to install it. Too many projects.

Fuel rail pressure set at 40 psi is a good start if you are running stock
injectors also check your vacuum lines for cracks this can also cause
a rich condition ..

I think I have the fuel dialed in. A tad on the rich side but I'd rather have a touch rich then too lean. Now on to this Code 43 business. From everything I have read it has to do with Electronic Spark Control and that somehow translates to the computer pulling timing due to knock. I got the timing dialed in so I think I'm good there. The brown wire under the dash is hooked back up. The knock sensor is the correct part and has Teflon tape and is not over torqued. I don't really know where to look next. Any help or pointers would be awesome.
