NEW GUY...

hey all...after 2 years of dickin' with my s-10 w/a whipple s/c i FINALLY got me a typhoon...clean and straight from Fl. w/120k,but lookin at it you'd never know.its super clean...still has the original windshield w/the mr.goodwrench & roadside assistance stickers on it...(needs to be replaced tho..) far as my bodyman can tell, the hood & the l/f fender have been painted...i couldent see it..no overspray or anything, but thats why i asked him...
i do have some questions for you turbo feinds...probably been asked before but here we go...
i read that the intercooler pipe from the turbo to the i/c should be replaced w/a less restrictive pipe or hose? a ford part?? can anyone be more specific (rad,i/c,ect..) i know alot of guys like the Conrad cap & rotor?? good??
this truck is complety stock(xept for a k&n filter) and i would like to keep it that way (for now anyway) but as with most factory type hotrod applications i know there are some things that should be modified (like the i/c tube) for more efficent performance...
can someone tip me off to a link, here or somewhere else, where i can learn such things...it would be greatly appreciated!!!

look forward to learning all i can about these trucks and there history...
thanx!!

Turbo to IC hose is relatively minor. There are a lot of other little things you should do first.

Change out the IC coolant lines to rubber IC hose.
Hotwire the IC pump to run all the time.

Yes, Conrad is one of the few good cap & rotor sets available. The brass contacts are said to hold up better.

<-- FAQ
<-- ReadMe
<-- Links - Loeryder's parts site

I found a part number somewhere for a radiator hose that worked well as a turbo-IC hose, probably Loeryder's site. But like I said, that's not really that big a deal. Read TookyCat's post about his new stock turbo time. Even removing the whole intake tube didn't really improve his times, so I doubt that the little turbo-IC hose will do anything.

yeah,i hear ya...i just want to do what will make this thing run at its peak without too much modifin'...
i will look into replaced the i/c lines,im gonna do a coolant flush anyway soo what better time.and the i/c pump should be wired to a hot ign.lead?
...also i found the cross-over pipe from the air box to the turbo is broken at the box....i sealed it up for now but will probably need one.are any of these parts avalible from a dealer or am i in for a hunt...
also the turbo -i/c hose looks like it been fixed a few times...multiple layers of "cloth like" tape...
thanx for tip on the hose,im gonna follow up now.anything else you think of,let me know
thanx agian

toolman,

First off welcome.. Next on the list is that hot wiring the IC pump to be on all the time is in the FAQ thats located to your left of this board. There is a TON of the info you will need in there. BTW, by "hot wiring" the pump you actually ground one terminal instead of connecting it to a +12v source.

Anyway, welcome and like was mentioned check out the FAQ, LINKS, SyTY READ ME, and other helpful info located to your left as its just a click away. :)

Not really. You'll need to drop the CCHE (Charge Coolant Heat Exchanger, the radiator part) down to access the back of it where the hoses are. Other than that, it's basically just undoing hose clamps and removing a couple bolts that hold the metal sections to the block.

And there shouldn't be anything done to the IC pump, just to a wire near its relay on the firewall.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it sounds like you need to do more reading. These trucks can be really quirky about stuff. Once someone goes through the hassle of figuring out one of these quirks, they usually document it, so other people don't have to go through the same hell. www.SyTyArchives.com has a lot of great HowTo articles that cover most basic mods you'd want to do to your truck. The Maintenance section at www.Sportmachines.com has lots of info too. The first recipe lists the most basic mods you can do, and many of them are free or really cheap. Read up on this stuff, and try searching the board for answers. The search function can be weird at times, but once you get used to it, you can find just about anything. In the same time it takes you to post a question (not even counting waiting for someone to reply to it), you can probably find a dozen threads with the answer.

cool...thanks for the info.iv been trin to locate a shurflo ic pump soo i can do the lines & the pump at the same time....ill do a search for a good sight to get one unless you can tip me off to a good sight...
i printed out the read me section with all the typical stuff...fuel pump, plugs & wires,ect...gonna try to do 1 or 2 a week until i put it down for the winter.Boston winters are tough.saturday i saw a ty same-same as mine (black/black) but the claddings were missing over the wheels cause the fender were rusted right up to the windows in the rear...it was sad...soo,i got the 95 s-10 4x4 with the Whipple for a winter beater...
agian thanks for the info...iv had ALOT of s-10s over the years, but never anthing like this beast...this sight will be a priceless source for info...im syc'd!!!

thats a good number with the hard lines ,aint it? that number will drop with the rubber line mod.?

T

good number indeed, johnson flows as good if not better than Surflo, with no mods either. soft lines are definately the way to go, but make sure you route them where they are as far away from a heatsource as possible. also be very careful about putting a bind in the rubber hose, once it gets a kink it wants to naturally do that all time. last thing you want to do is restrict the flow of the already inadequate stock IC system.

like several have mentioned...........read, a bunch. I still sit and do searches for stuff that tickles my fancy, there is tons of info out there that has already been discussed. not saying don't post but do some homework then if unsure or just want ot see if something has changed then post a question.

don't worry about the search feature, you'll get used to it. i've learned to type in related things to bring up more posts. like if i'm interested in water wetter for the IC, i just type IC or intercooler so I can pick through and maybe learn something else besides just about water wetter. just a thought.

thanks for the imput Don.
im planning on just doing the typical upgrades listed in the syty read me section for now (this year) like the ic pump, lines & 180* t stat, walbro h/v fuel pump & regulator...check/repl.all the vac.lines...and replace ALL fluids...id like to do exhaust but the under carraige is soo cleal i hate to take a perfect exhaust system off till it needs one...

thanks agian..ill do some more research before i ask anymore dumb questions...

I have heard of some people having run high 11's/Low 12's through the stock exhaust system.
I would mostly make sure your cat isn't plugged.

My opinion is that all the things you are doing here are to get it to baseline.
I think that only once you have good base parts, THEN you can start tuning.
i.e. playing with boost, playing with timing, playing with fuel, playing with Intercooling.

yeah Will,i figure the baseline thing is the best way to go for now.i dout i will go too wild with increasing boost or that stuff,id like to have a basically stock, strong running ty....it will be worth more in the long run...(hopefully)

thanks

I agree, these trucks can RAGE with basic parts...

Can we get some punctuation? I'd love to read about your Ty, but it's difficult when you can't tell one thought from another, much less one sentence.

Topic cleanup....

This is a technical area. Your point may have merit however, keep it out of the topic. IM the guy next time.

im gettin used to my new truck now and tryd a launch last night...held the brake and rev'd it to adout 5 -7 psi and let it rip...WOW-but i have a question...i got some tire noise in the rear,no smoke or anything, and it was very breif....is that normal?? i figured with awd it would just hook up and go-agian,iv never had an awd and was just wondering if some tire slippage is normal???
