I picked up my first syclone yesterday for $11,000.00 with 35k original miles. I shopped around and this seemed like the best deal I could work. There are some problems however. I didnt know until I really floored it but when you do it stutters and putters/shakes while its fully floored. It almost seems like the exhaust is messed up or something. Maybe the turbo? Im not too sure. Its labor day weekend so I cant get anything done until tuesday. The truck is in very nice condition besides this mechanical problem(s). Anyone in Southern Cal know of a good place to get syclones worked on? Dealer? I dont mind spending a couple grand to get it running tip top since I got it for a pretty good deal. Supposedly the turbo has been upgraded internally and its got a custom chip. Also, the previouse owner had the exhaust cut short (sticks out right in front of back tire). Any help on my dilemma would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Oh sorry., Welcome to the board. Sounds like you got a great deal on the truck.
The trucks are very sensitive to mods, so make sure you find out what the previous owner put in there.
Lots of help here, but best to get out and try and meet people in the area since your new to these trucks.
The sooner you meet up with someone to hook up datamaster (scantool) and find out what chip you got in there the better.
There is a FAQ and links on the left.

I would first read the 'SyTy readme' on the front page of this website, make sure your ignition is 100% as that sound like your problem. Good luck with trying to find someone to compentently work on your truck. These trucks are finicky enough and most mechanics don't know how to work on these trucks. If you do have a mechanic work on your truck besure you do you homework on what parts are being put on your truck. A simple thing like the wrong spark plugs can be a big headache.

Tommorow is put Brians motor back in his Typhoon day..... I should be there from about 11 am tommorow..... will be there till the engine is back in or we give up..
He is in the South Bay - Torrance- so some time in the afternoon may have time to look at it...as long as the install goes smooth...

Hey, sounds like you got a great deal. I bought mine for $13,500 with 47K original miles and it ran like total garbage (i.e, check engine light, missing, rough idle, poor mileage etc.). Basically, the original owner never tuned the truck up so I spent the first few months going through everything. Now it idles perfectly and runs 0-60 in 4.6 like it did from the factory. Go easy on it until you've done a complete tuneup. This forum will be invaluable to you; we're here to help. Again, congrats and enjoy the Sy

congrats on the purchase! sounds like you got a better deal on yours than most people... i got mine about a year and a half ago with 40k for 12k. i didnt really know jack shit about working on cars till i got this truck. im sure if you read enough horror stories about some dipshit that shouldnt even be working on a lawnmower let alone a syty, messing up peoples trucks cause they didnt know anything about them and never worked on them; youll be more than motivated to learn to fix it yourself... afterall why pay some idiot $60 an hour to screw up your truck when you can do it yourself for free :lol:
anyway, like earlier posted, read the FAQ's and the "Read Me" section, and learn as much as you can, itll make things go a lot smoother. also try to meet up with some of us socal guys, it always helps to know people that may live near by, that could offer a hand. we were trying to set up a so cal meet, but im not sure whats happenin with that... we should probably get something set up since there seems to be quite a few new owners in socal now.

I thought my virgin #70 with 20k for 14 was good...
I would recommend going through the truck 100% before doing anything else.
Borrow a scantool and find out exactly where your truck is at.
As commented above, start small these truck rape with very basic things.
Don't go overboard.
