Hi syty forum, I have been a long time reader and have found awesome information related to the 4.3 engine. I actually joined the forum in april to buy a sy/ty fuel rail for my project, but I never really posted.

NOW: I know this is a sy/ty forum, and I may seem like another s-10 guy, but the knowledge of 4.3's lies here, and I enjoy reading and learning from it here. I hope I can put my part in too even if I dont own a sy/ty/Sgt.

My 94 blazer has a maintenance hog of a 4.3 CPI (l35 to you guys), which makes decent power, but isnt all that nice on mileage or smoothness due to its central injection system, which is just a single TBI injector mounted in a housing with a pressure regulator and six poppets coming out. ALL INSIDE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD!

I have replaced the CPI unit, distributor, 02 sensor, cat, and muffler so far to keep it running in tip top shape. They were all bad since the beginning but its been about 8-9 months since I did the repair and other than basic maintenance most has been well.
The BWD rebuilt cpi unit's fpr regulator is going bad though, but mine is warrantied so all is well.

From that expensive experience, I decided, why not build a simpler, more reliable, and perhaps less gas hungry engine.

My basic game plan to achieve these goals are as follows.

Good, reliable short block (LB4 roller cam block)
Good heads are key to any setup, vortecs obviously
MPFI. 2114 all the way :)
Comp 415 cam. (May hurt the mileage but idk)

But im planning on using DIS as my ignition.

How do I plan to do it?

Via a 7730 ecu.
I hope I can run $59 on it...

It will work off a 7x system sourced from a 60ºv6.
I will need to get a trigger wheel machined and placed somewhere in the crank snout. Wether it is behind the balancer or in front of it.

I was thinking, why not machine the balancer, but I have found that the balancer outer ring on 4.3's like to jump positions. Found this out the hard way when I set the timing on my ebay billet dizzy (which BTW works well). So thats out of the question.

Most all that needs changed in the tune is the crank reference angle in the bin, and a few wiring harness changes...

This is the project I have chosen to jump into tuning with.

My 7730 is out of a 92 beretta
LB4 is out of a 92 astro tbi
Vortec heads are rebuilt 2000 roller trunion heads. (need guides modded and ls6 springs yet to go)
DIS setup from 3.4 camaro
2114: have holes drilled and injector bosses but needs welded
Sy/ty fuel rail cut in two for vertical injector placement on 2114. Will flare cut ends and add new sections of tubing.
LT1 injectors.
LB4 reground cam to comp 415 specs.

Have all that, but need to put it together.
Placing this weeks emphasis on finishing 2114.
Then I get the reluctor made.

But I wish I made more money so I can already buy a tuning package from moates. Probably the apu-1.

Then will come the NV3500...

Re: New member with a slow buildup :)

This is a three year old post, and things change over time, but have you made progress on your engine project?

I too have to venerable 4.3 CPI in my '94 Blazer 2WD.
It is currently experiencing minor surging at idle but has been sitting through a six-year paint project so it has only been run and driven around the shop and in the yard during that time.
I've added a couple gallons of fresh fuel each spring just to keep existing fuel mixed but quick starts and yard shuffles haven't done the engine tune any justice. The plugs are quite sooted as a result.

Now that the paint project is nearing completion this coming winter, and in preparation for a busy drive season next summer I'll be doing a full tune up (MSD cap & rotor, new wires (possibly Sportmachines Aussie wires), NGK plugs, PCV valve, etc.. I'll be draining the fuel tank, installing new AC Delco fuel filter, etc., in this process as well.

I cleaned the EGR valve and installed a screen gasket but thought of removing the EGR. What has to be done to successfully remove the EGR on these CPI engines, as compared to the SyTy's turbo'd 4.3's???

Do you have any photos of your project/parts?
