New Stance

I finally "finished" the suspension tune-up/update. Last year I did the ZQ8 box and Astro shaft updates. This amplified the condition of the bushings and tie rod ends, so I slowly got to curing those problems, and decided to lower it all at the same time. So, I ordered the PST polygraphite kit. I also got the steering parts through them, including the solid adjuster sleeve. (note: PST kit didn't come with inner Tie Rod Ends). Ordered Moog Idler Arm, and inner Tie Rod Ends. Next up on the parts list was Belltech springs, Keys, and QA1 adjustable shocks. While I was in there I got braided stainless brake lines, Summit racing brand drilled/slotted rotors, and EBC Red Stuff pads, and 7/8" wheel cylinders.

I sat on the parts for quite a while before getting to actually putting it all in. Once I did, I found the rear sway bar link bushings almost totally missing, useless. No wonder it rolled so badly. So, I got to taking stuff apart. Just after taking everything but the passenger side front apart I had surgery and couldn't do much for almost a month, so it sat on the stands sappily in the garage. Finally I recovered and finished the project. Here is how it sits now. I still need an alignment and camber adjustment, and I may put a turn or so on the key adjusters to bring it up in front a little more.

Here it goes as best as I remember:

Brake Stuff:
7/8" wheel Cylinders: Autozone WC37584
Front Rotors: Summit Racing: SUM-66066L&R
EBC Red Stuff pads: Summit Racing: EBC-DP3114C
Goodridge Lines: I lost the reciept, but am 95% sure they are: 14111

Suspension:
Bushings: PST 33119
Tie rod kit: No part# in the PST catalog, I just called.
Solid Adjuster Sleeve: Same as above.
Inner Tie Rod Ends: Moog: ES2072RLT
Idler Arm: Moog: K6251T
Front Shocks: QA1: TR-403
Rear Shocks: QA1: TS-702 W/QA1-TC1539P (The TS-702 is t-bar top and stud on the bottom. Had to carefully grind/cut the removable stud off the shock. They use red locktight, and it is the only way I could think to remove it without damaging the shock)
Keys: Belltech: 3922
Leaves: Belltech: 5954
JTR setback plates.

Hope this helps.

Re: New Stance

So. After putting a few miles on the new set-up and alignment, had an odd issue. Was backing out of a parking spot, turning back and to the right. Just before stopping to transition to drive, felt a pop in the front right like the entire wheel shifted. Well, it did. Limped home, and let it sit for a week or so. Finally took time to do a close inspection. Both fronts were cambered out visibly. No issues with parts though. Brought it back to the alignment shop, and had them do a recheck. Apparently they didn't fully tighten the control arm adjustment nuts all the way. They made it right though with no questions.

Unforeseen side effect of lowering. My rear sway bar hits the exhaust. Oh well...

Re: New Stance

Filpped the old ATR sway bar under the rear axle. It bolted up fine and looks to be better lined up in this configuration. The "arms" are now paralell with the leaf springs not pointing up or down. Hopefully it'll help handling like this. At least it isn't gonna hit the exhaust anymore.

That looks real good. Nice Job.
I can't wait to do mine in a few weeks.

Re: New Stance

Well apparently I didn't check my steering clearances thoroughly. At max steering the wheels are making contact with the upper control arms on the front lip. Should I trim them, or limit the steering. Other options I am not seeing?

Its due to the zq8 boxes internal steering stop. I had the same problem. I welded some extensions on to the lower a arm stops.. Well see if it did the trick soon..
