If someone were to inadvertantly install a non-lockup converter in a 4l80e thinking that it was a locking converter, what would happen? Would the controller attempt to lock the converter, and the converter just wouldn't respond....then what? Would the non-change confuse the controller and cause it to shift to the next gear?

Nothing would happen. The controller would think it is locked up, but since there is no lock up in converter nothing would happen or change.
I use a seperate gm ecm to control my 4l80e, but use the stock SyTy ECM to control lock up. The tranny ecm tells it to lock up all the time but nothing happens or changes.:2cents:

thanks for the feedback. This was just a wave of "waht if" as i was having a side conversation around lockup converters and suddenly wondered if this could have possibly been a part of the culprit of my tranny shifting issues when i first bought the ls1 ty.
seemingly it shouldn't make a difference, and wouldn't have caused my symptons. thanks guys.
