Oil filler cap

Okay... I'm getting tired of having a dirty, skanky engine compartment.
Some previous owner has a big breather in place of what I assume is the oil filler cap. Can I just replace it with a regular cap? Or should I be checking to make sure PCV system is in place?

Any links or at least online pics showing how my truck is supposed to be?

If it is on teh dirvers side and you already have a filler then it was the air tube going ot the stock airbox.

If your truck has a cold air kit then they just stuck a filter on it instead of running it to near the air filter like it is suppoed to be.
Get a K&N filter for it and dont worry about it.

Yes, it is on the driver's side? Are you saying I should keep the breather (yes, it's a K&N filter)?

There is no filler cap. Just a filter/breather that I have to remove to put oil into the engine. I have a K&N cone filter off the end of my stock plastic intake pipe, and in the middle of that, there is a hose going into the murky depths of my engine. ;)

On the drivers Side valve cover the forward most hole should be the oil filler tube. The rear hole is for the PCV system. It draws air into the crankcase so it is ok to replace with a filter if you dont ahve to pass a visual emissions inspection.

Okay... two (and a half) questions:

1) what weight (5W-30, 10W-30) is specified on the cap?

2) where can I pick up the snazzy neck that you have between the cap and the valve cover? Part number?

Yes it still has fully functional ABS it is just out of view.

The cap says 10W-30, we all use Mobil1 synthetic, some folks run up to 20W-50.

The "screw in style" filler neck is GM part #10203474
"screw in" Typhoon oil filler cap is GM #1647547

By "screw-in" do you mean the cap actually screws into the filler neck (which in turn screws into the valve cover)? My 93 S-10 has a screw-on cap, but the Sy has a rubber "pop off" cap... Are the filler necks interchangeable at the valve cover end? Just want to make sure...

The cap actually screws down into the filler tube.

Yes they should be interchangable.

The screw in design is the 2nd design in the parts books.
And in 92 it lists both the 1st design plug in and the 2nd design screw in for the same valve covers so it should work.
