Oil leak

When I pulled the prop shaft the other day I saw a bunch of oil under the truck. Not on the ground but all over the underside of the front of the truck. Tried to track it down but without actually cleaning it first, next to impossible. Seems to have started very recently because I check the fluids on a regular basis and just had to add almost a whole quart the other day. The oil seems to have started leaking from the adapter where the oil filter lines leave the block. Checked the books that I have and there is a gasket in there between block and adapter. At least that is where I think the oil is coming from. I would say oil pan or seal but the adapter is higher than those. Anybody have similar findings? Jim

Those oil filter lines leak like a sieve.I think you found the problem.Time to replace the gasket on the adapter.

Yup, the remote filter adapter is a very common leak source. In fact, I have 2 seal kits in my garage right now; 1 for the Blazer, which is currently leaking just like yours... and one for my Ty, which isn't leaking.... yet.

I also had to replace this on my previous Ty. Seal kit is, like $11 and the dealer. It has an o-ring for the adapter-to-block and a gasket for the 'manifold block' where the tubes attach.

Well, dealer only charged $3.60 for gasket kit. But what a pain in the nuts. The o-ring was easy as pie but the gasket was next to impossible. Finally ended up getting my 12" ductboard knife to scrape old gaket off through the wheel well. Then put in new o-ring, easy. Lining up the gasket with both bolts at once pretty much blew. Finally had my wife stick her hand through wheel well and line up gasket when I put bolts through the housing. Now life is good and waiting for u-joints in mail. Jim
