Oil pressure switch

does the oil pressure switch control anything other than a failsafe for the fuel pump & gauge?

i want to eliminate it, as long as it wont interfere with any other operation, besides the gauge.

Re: Oil pressure switch

If you just unplug it you will be okay, the fuel pump cut only works when the sensor sees low pressure and makes a connection.

My old s-10 and my sy have been missing the sensor for many many years, its a great spot to install an aftermarket gauge :)

Good luck with the new build!

Re: Oil pressure switch

thanks.

looking at the wiring, it looks like the fuel pump relay and oil press sender are wired parallel. So i would say that if the oil sensor reads low, it shorts the power to ground and you lose power to the fuel pump.

My goal is to remove the fuel pump wiring from the harness, but i dont want it to affect anything else.

Re: Oil pressure switch

Why not just run the racetronix hotwire kit and use a manual switch on the relay instead of wiring that back into the fuel pump harness?? Thats the easiest way to do it. The racetronix kit basically converts the factory fuel pump wire from a direct power source to a "light switch" (if you will) that turns on the relay that wires the fuel pump directly to the battery. Throw a "hot" manual switch on there and you can turn it on anytime you want. Thats how my trans am was wired..

Any reason for wanting to delete the fuel pump wiring?

Re: Oil pressure switch

i had the racetronix harness on my truck, and i took it off. I am not running a stock style fuel system, or a stock style pump. The hotwire harness runs double the amount of wire needed, and adds an extra relay.

The oil pressure sender and the fuel pump relay are definitely wired in parallel, but the circuit does not act as a fail safe for low oil pressure. The parallel circuit allows the truck to still start if the relay is bad.

I remember DaveP mentioning this a few times.

ok, i am just going to cut the relay out of the circuit, and loom it back up. Thanks.

I removed that circuit when I did the XFI. You can leave the (middle?) wire on the sensor\switch to keep the gauge working.
