Oil Pump Questions

not stock
I just bought a Morosa Blueprinted Racing Oil Pump and pickup/screen. I'm wondering if anyone else has used this, and if you've had a problem w/ clearing the bottom of the pan. The pump is about a 1/4" taller than a stock pump.

Also, it comes with three springs for pressure....high, medium, and low pressure. It comes with the medium spring installed. My intentions were to stay with that spring, but would there be any good reason to use the high or low pressure spring?

Stay with the medium spring.Dont forget that the same oil pump lubricates the small block too
Nice choise by the way

HAHAHAHA.. youre stupid.... Ok, I did too  :-?

What RPM are you twisting the eng to? Below ~5500? Stick with the medium spring IMO. You will prolly want to shim the springs in the bypass for the filter anyway as it bypasses enough oil as it is with just a stock pump.

Youve got a "true" high volume pump on your hands so be conscious of it draining the stock pan/gulping air if youre gonna spin the engine to the moon. BTDT. IMO the stock roller lifters dont like huge amounts of oil pressure as it collapses the internal spring and they "pump up" holding the valve(s) off the seat(s) which kills power(same effect as "floating the vavles").

Thats a good durable pump which Ive used myself in SBCs without problem. As far as the pickup you have clearing the stock 4wd pan... Dunno. If it was me Id put the pump on, drop the pan on WITHOUT the gasket, and see if it would clear. If its good to go without the gasket then you should be fine once the pan gasket is in place as its a good 1/8th inch thick.

race or get outta the way
the guy who originally built the motor i just bought had set the presuure to high. Like 80psi when warm. The pump pressure was prematurely wearing the distributor gear from the extra stress of the higher pressure of the pump.
We plan on lowering the pressure to avoid this. There is also a fix by drilling the an oil passage to allow more oil to reach the dist gear that will help if running he higher pressure. thats all i know about it at this point. havent torn down the new motor yet to see what he has been tellling me.
