opinions on motor swap

im gonna try to make this a simple post. especially since i have so many things influenced my decisions.

i have a 95ext RWD 4.3 TBI 4L60e S10

i have a syty motor totaly complete. harness, fuse box, excessories etc.

i think im gonna put the syty manifolds/turbo on the 95 motor.
i will then need to buy a larger (V8) injector, afpr, bigger fuel pump, msd btm, and i will monitor the motor with a wide band.

PROS
then i can keep my 4L60e that is rebuilt/with a shift kit and my 2800stall converter. i wont have any issues with the tranny shifting, i can leave the column shifter alone. don't have to buy a floor shifter (pricy) i don't have to take out the motor. and thats important because i can't lay the truck up for more than 3 or 4 days.

CONS
if i put the syty motor in with the harness. im going to need a early model 700r4/4L60, then have it rebuild just to play it safe. and like i said, id have to lay the truck up which really isn't an option this summer.

so to you none factory syty guys..... what do you think? how easy/hard should it be to put the manifolds/turbo on the TBI 4.3? should i :hang: i used to be on a forum astrosafari.com, and there was a guy that did a CPI 4.3 astro. he did a similar turbo system. he didn't have any really concerns up to 12 or 13ish psi on 94 octane.

i will definetley put the real syty motor in with the complete harness. i would love to do a 4L80e or even a th400. i just cant lay the truck up this summer.

any ideas would help.............but please don't suggest i buy a syty :chair:

Re: opinions on motor swap

TBI's are a pain. you wont get more than 300 hp, and even that will be a chore. supporting alot of HP is difficult with only two injectors.

i played the TBI game for a while as did a few others. we pushed them pretty far, but needless to say we all have custom MPFI setups now

IMO swap in the complete syty motor and switch tranny's

Re: opinions on motor swap

In your situation I'd do what Silver said..... Swap in the entire Sy/Ty engine. Leave in your 4L60E and think of the 95 ecm as a "Transmission controller" only. It won't care that it's not controlling the engine. It'll need to have several inputs to base transmission controll. RPM/Speedo/Ect.
It's definatly possible with some wiring to hook all the inputs/power you'll need to keep the existing ECM(95) to just controll the Transmission.
The Sy/Ty ecm will just be for the motor. The 4wire connector that go's down to the 700R will be un-used. Alll your factory gauges can be hooked up also.. no problems there.
That'd be the cheapest plan with the best results for your situation IMHOP.

Re: opinions on motor swap

that sounds like a good idea. however, i found a guy on craigslist and hes swapping his "older" car from 700R4 to a standard shift. i believe its an early model camaro 700R4. he has the tranny (excellent working condtion) 2500 stall converter, flywheel, tranny cooler and a hurst ratchet shifter all for $450 nego.

im gonna tell him to keep the shifter and flywheel and offer him $300.

it he bites i will just swap out my tranny. ill sell my tranny and recoupe some money. i have a 2800/3000 stall converter, and not sure which one i should use. im guessing 2500 stall should be plenty of stall in in "stock" motor/turbo.

anyway, we will se what happens tomorrow when i see the tranny.

SILVERBLAZ, thanks for the info. if it doesn't happen, ill def be contacting you.
