piston oiling

After further research, it looks like many new engine designs are using some manner of piston oiling, even if they're only normally aspirated. Harley Davidson's new Twin-cam 88, even has provisions to oil the pistons. Considering how reluctant they are to embrace new technology, piston oiling must be an accepted way to improve detonation control, and engine longevity.

Got any links to this info? Id like to check it out and see whats up with the reasons for doing it and all. I could see it being an advantage for a air cooled eng like the HD but am curious about the engineering behind water cooled engines needing it.
