pistons

so I went to order je extreme pistons, the place I went to order them said they don't have any left in stock, and that je has been having issues lately so they don't use them anymore. I don't want to mention the company name as im pretty sure they are a vendor here. I was told they use mahle pistons now and are just as strong as the je ones, little bit more money but said what the hell order them.
I dropped it all off to the machine shop and told them my goal and what I wanted done. the machinist called me the other day and said they are a 4032 alloy and would really recommend the 2618 with the boost levels im planning and where these trucks are prone to detonation its a little bit extra insurance. it is going to be mostly a street truck, but from doing research it seems the 4032 pistons are very fragile with any knock at all. I tried contacting the company about them, Ive since been ignored.
there was no hostility when I contacted them, just what my machinist said and how It concerned me because I was told they were the same as the je pistons.
My question is do I run these pistons or tell the machinist to hold off for a bit?

Re: pistons

I can say that I'm happy with the CP's I have. They, along with everyone else I assume, make a piston for blown motors. If it were me I'd lean that direction.

Re: pistons

It is my understanding that detonation is more of a concern with regards to the lower end of a engine. I remember reading a thread on here where somebody said they have never seen a piston break from detonation. I did some of the same research when I bought my Pistons. I ended up using 4032. I came to the conclusion that the 2618 piston was actually less reliable in every circumstance but "extreme use".
What is considered extreme use? I guess that's up for speculation.

Re: pistons

Give Wiseco a call. I have had great success running there
1400hd2 Pistons in my evo 8. Right it's making 548 awhp on a
Synopsis jet on e85. Been running them for 3 years at that power.

I have. It was a broken ring land with a bunch of the others cracked. Can't prove it of course but I have no doubt it was knock. They were SRP's with a LOT of passes on them. Prolly at the end of their life anyway.

Re: pistons

Here is a stock piston after detonation. This piston was trashed while running pump gas with a tune designed for race gas (way to much timing).

Re: pistons

Wouldn't detonation that severe destroy any piston? That thing looks like it was sandblasted with lava, good lord.

Why are the rings so rusty and why does the aluminium look like its been exposed to water? Is this post disassembly damage or did it come out looking like that?

I has been a wall hanger in the garage ever since I removed it about 6 years ago. Nice conversation piece.
