Powermaster Users beware

Believe it or not, but I actually skimmed thru the directions that came w my 140 A Powermaster Alt. And I'm sorry to inform U guys that R going all out. But they have a Warning that their unit is not to be run above 18,000 RPM.

Guess that ruins my plans for running my engine at 20 K.

Wait a minute, I just reread it since it didn't make sense. I guess U have to divide that by the Pulley ratio. I'll go out and measure that - it looks to be ~ 2.1" on the Alt. pulley and 7.56" on the crank. So that would make the ratio ~ 3.6. So, then I guess we shouldn't be running it over 4998, say 5000 RPM ?

That seems kinda ridiculous - weren't our car designed to run 5500 RPM Max ? And I'm sure that alot of our guys want to run ~ 6000 RPM. In fact, I was hoping to run that. So then we R supposed to change out one of the pulleys ? So then I would need to raise the Alt pulley to ~ 2.27", say 2¼" ?

I wonder if our stock Alts have a similar RPM limit ? I'll give them a call.

Stock SyTy - around 4200 rpms..... thats when the governor takes over and shifts.

Even with the KB cam - 5000 rpm....

Buicks are more like 5500 rpm ....

Hey Lynn, maybe that's why mine cracked. We have the stock crank pulley for now, and rev over 6k. The front bearing made noise after a few hundred miles and finally let go, cracking the front housing. It was a 140A chrome Powermaster that was about $200.

I never read any stupid directions :(

Yeh, don't know what got into me - I rarely ever do that until something blows up. Guess I'll keep it under 6 K.
