I have an 89 gmc s15 that im interested in hopping up...heads are #14094768...what can i do to hop these up...anything?

Trying to get as much info on using vortech heads..but see that there is alot of work required to mount these....anyone mod the non vortech heads..i see posts that say they are basically junk...been to several forums on this subject..and im new here..any input would be appreciated..

Not opposed to doing mods to vortecs if the desired HP effect is substantial..i wanted to lean towards edelbrock 3713 and the tec headers...but want to know all about these heads i have..and if i can make them work

Will you setup be carb or EFI? Edelbrock makes a 4bbl manifold that bolts to the vortecs. L35s will bolt right on.

That was fast...I plan on using the TBI that i took off...i want to retain fuel injection as im in illinois (cold winters) ran into cfm tec and they have a reworked TB for $218 or there abouts..I want to know as much about this as i can..if someone thinks im better off with new heads..point me in the right direction...an aftermarket manifold and headers are in the picture.as well as cam (if better than stock)and headers...

Anyone have a set of these bolt on vortecs..im interested...but would like feedback as my head vs vortec..is mine crap as ive heard....

Thanks for any feedback

Boy - don't you have an advantage over the SyTy owners.

Edelbrock makes an intake for Vortec heads that you'll be able to use the TBI on. Should be a bolt on afair without the machine work we need to get everything to work.

I wonder how much fuel you can get through that TBI?

a lot. I used the holley 2" TBI and you can get 96# injectors for it. and run them through the stock ecm. but their are only 2. and it's a low pressure system, 15-20psi max....

I used it on a 14psi, 9.2CR, supercharged, alky setup and made some 13sec runs a few yrs back in a 4x4 blazer.. on l35 heads and headers

You seem to know quite a bit about new heads on older blocks..so let me ask you this...89 block..newer 96+ heads...i hear the old flow 160 cfm..the new 220 cfm...i hear they are a bolt on to the older blocks...and the edelbrock manifold with adapter will let me retain the TBI...big question on my mind is the water...as i understand it..and others have confirmed..the older block flows water from the passanger to driver side, across mainfold to colpete the circuit.Now..the newer manifolds dont have water crossovber...so what am i missing...are the block and head ports the same?

Whew...im a nOOb...i know...

ya. dont worry about the crossover( I assume u mean the one in the rear of the block by the dist). 4.3 blocks are all the same far as coolant flow. and gm did the same motors about 4 different ways with some having crossover. some didn't. even others took the heater core supply from the RR corner. it's all the same. don't worry about the coolant flow issue.

The motor I had in my ty that I ran low 11's on was an 88 block with 99 heads and no crossover. I'm sure if you wanted to go to the trouble to make a crossiver for the rear of the block it might help something. but with tbi you don't need to worry about making huge power it's just not goin to happen.
