PTE Downpipe Clearance

While installin the pte 60 on Ty1450's truck today I ran into problems with downpipe clearance.
How much clearance is there supposed to be?

I can't seem to get any clearance from the pipe to the frame. I turned it every which way, moved it up down, still no luck.

It seems like it fits the best with the second piece overlapping the first section by about a inch.

There is no way this would stay together with the engine moving around.

Ideas, pictures, etc appreciated before I send this back.

Just thought of something. What about giving the downpipe a slight oval shape where it crosses the frame?

What do you mean? I would think any 'oval-ing' of the dp would increase it's diameter in that particular section.

do you have the stubby end bolted tightly to the turbo? of so, loosen it up then try installing the pipe, then tighten the bolts on the turbo.

I bet you are doing the same mistake i made.
The pic from pte can mess you up.

The pipe with the dump goes in the middle!

the dump will be facing down.

I also had to expand the ends a bit for the middle section to fit on the end with the 02 bung. then it will slide onto it all the way.

I noticed the same with mine.
So I had just about an 1" of the second pipe that went into the first piece.
Then I used this:

to hold them together.

You may also get some extra room by loosening the 4 nuts that hold the exhaust housing to the exhaust manifold. There is some play that will allow you to tilt the exhaust/turbo up & down.

I also noticed that the first slip-joint is rather loose. You might want to take both pieces to the muffler shop & have them expand the inner pipe just a little to get a tighter fit.

Kurt, If the pipe is oval shape vertically it will have more room between it and the frame. I have adequate room otherwise.

The pipe is assembled correctly. I did try loosening the first section at the turbo hoping there would be enough slack in the holes to gain a bit more clearance. Didn't help.

All joints fit nicely with the exception of the third section to the cat. That fit was horrible. Used my pipe expander and now it fits nice.

Why for $1600 don't you get three quality band clamps with the kit. I received two skinny band clamps and had to buy another for the cat to pipe connection. No way am I going to use a U-bolt type so that I can't get it apart again.

So how much clearance are PTE users typically getting??? This one is just pretty much sitting against the frame. Looks like if the engine moves even slightly it will be rubbing a hole in it and possibly causing false knock.

The fitment varies it seems. All the pipes look exactly the same (the ones I've seen together), so I am going to say it is truck to truck issues, based mainly on motor mount condition, unfortunately.

On mine, I got rid of the slip fit and put a v band setup at the middle .
