pte turbo clearance issues

i must say i am disappointed with my pte 60 kit. the solenoid and wg arm both hit my fender which pissed me off because i mounted the turbo before i put in the engine.

well i fixed that and now the DP is laying on top of the frame.

this is after i ground on the AC bracket for about a half an hour to make IT fit.

anyone else have problems like this?

you just have to reclock the turbo, and do everything slow...it can be a PITA but it all fits without clearence, not by much, but it does fit.

i did mine with motor already in.

Re: pte turbo clearance issues

thanks but how will that make the DP fit? the exh turb housing is bolted onto the manifold so it can't be moved.

that true...some people have problems when motor mounts are toast and motor has shifted...Not sure what to tell ya...the pte dp can be turned and adjusted a bit as it uses clamps, but other than that, from what i have seen, some people have problems some dont...

can be a big prob if it slaps against the frame and knock sensor picks it up and kills power all day long.

Re: pte turbo clearance issues

have solids that may be why. but it needs to move a half inch off of the frame at least so i'm thinking quality control at precision is garbage.

mine fit fine with room to spare before and after solid mounts. just got to put it in after the motor is in. takes maybe 2-3 hrs tops with installing the turbo and all lines.

do you still have the factory dp bracket ? my ty didn't have it and it had an atr dp and it was very very close ! so when i did the engine in the sy it had the bracket so i used it and it pulled the dp 2-3" off the frame .

iv never seen a truck that used the PTE kit with a 44-60 turbo that had the stock intercooler not fit, and require clearancing. unless you are rotating the compressor housing, or have something different about your truck it will fit without clearancing anything. the downpipe is a little snug, but it always fits with a little twisting of the joints.

well guess what? you have now. mine did not fit out of the box and the only thing not stock that would have made any difference is solid motor mounts which i bought from you.

mods were made to my fender well (BFH), AC bracket, and i still don't know what the hell i am going to do about the DP but i have rotated it in every direction as far as it will go and it won't fit without bending that section of pipe.

Only thing I can think of is you might have to adjust the JS pads on the frame to clearance that DP off the frame....If thats too much trouble then just figure out where you need to cut the downpipe so you can rotate it to fit your truck, then have it rewelded....This isn't going to happen by itself....you have to make it happen....If I lived by you, I would do it for you....As far as your compressor not clearing your a/c bracket, personally, I would toss the blame on the PAS shitty quality control on our stock exhaust manifolds before I would the PTE syty exhaust housing....Nobody said this was going to be easy....I have found nothing to be easy about these trucks, especially working on "stock" ones.....good luck

Believe it or not the PTE quality control on their downpipes is pretty good. Some trucks seem to have less clearance then others, but with a TO4E compressor cover it should clear the A/C no problem. when the bolts are loose it will contact when you spin it, but if they are just barely loose it should glide by the bracket. As for the downpipe, sounds like your motor mounts may also need adjustment.

Re: pte turbo clearance issues

I agree PTE prolly has better quality and standards than GM/PAS did when assembling our trucks.

As with intercoolers, turbos, coilovers, sway bars, whatever... You are going to have variances from truck to truck and you just gotta deal with them and get on with life or you'll be miserable forever.
