Well I have successfully completed another project invovling pulling a 4.3 v6 and replacing with a 6.0 LS V8 / 4l80E.
The idea is to make my Wife's Silverado capable of pulling the Syclone to the track. Now that I have a little boy, we cant just jump in and go. We (especially my Wife since this is her first car) decided we would keep the truck, keep an eye out for a motor, and make it the hauler. So the 4.3 had to go, it could barely move the big 5150 lb extended cab 2wd truck, let alone pull anything.
So along comes a deal, and boy what a deal. My good friend finds an 01 2500HD on craigslist. Long story short, we go together, buy the truck, and tear it apart. Guy told us $800 or $900 with bed. My friend had no interest but as a "finders fee", I let him buy the bed for $100 to sell for a profit (which he did for $500!). This was clear title, no brakes, and the bed and front clip were just sitting on the frame. We started it and drove it on the trailer.
Pictures tell the rest of the tale. It was not as easy of a swap as you would think. The wiring was actually the only thing that was literaly "plug n play". Either way, its done, its driving, its got ice cold a/c, and enough power to pull a house.
I installed the Hydroboost from the 2500, and installed a v5 hitch from a suburban (the 2500's was missing). I have a set of helper bags ordered and will be installing this weekend, and the last thing to do is install a trailer brake controller.
I will be pulling the Sy to the track before the end of this year. Ive got a good sticky new set of tires ordered and am pushing more boost so I feel much more comfortable knowing I don't have to drive it home.
As you can imagine, i have plenty of parts left over to sell. I still have the 4.3, trans, ecu, harness, etc from the truck, an 8 lug 14 bolt rear, and a slew of other items. I have sold the cab, bed, and interior so far. Total cost for this project at this point is +$60. Thats right, ive already sold those few items and recouped ALL of my money. Fluids, freon, etc all paid for! ! ! Only thing in it is time sweat and a little blood
This is my Wifes daily driver and she absolutely loves this new motor. It probably makes close to 100 hp more than her old 4.3, and it really drives like a whole new animal.
Anyway, im really pleased with the results and proud of the accomplishment, so I wanted to share with everyone here. I can not wait to get the Sy behind it and head to the track!
