Pulsating boost?

Just noticed this this morning on my Ty. As I have my foot on the gas I noticed the boost guage go from around 4 psi to the 15 mark and imediately back down to low psi without my foot moving the pedal up or down. It would do this every time a little boost was required. It isn't a guage problem where as I could hear the turbo increase and decrease as well as feel the Ty surge and let off. It has just started doing this. I even noticed that when I mash on it (not wot) that it was doing it, psi would spike and back off, jump up again and so on.

Re: Pulsating boost?

I am having the exact problem. I did a half throttle run 0 to 70 mph. Boost will jump up to about 7 then drop to 5 then go to 10 and drop to 7 up to 12 down to 10 up to 15 by then I was doing 70 and I let off. I have always had this issue and never fully figured it out. I still have a cat, Borla catback, I put the turbotweak in hoping that would fix the issue but it didn't.

Have you datalogged it. When I looked at Chads truck it was hitting 7 degrees of knock then the computer would pull timing and boost. When looking at the datamaster log the boost was like a wave.

Re: Pulsating boost?

I will do a data log in the morning and watch timing and knock. I know the boost will show a wave and I know I have 0 knock up till 17 lbs of boost I have been having a really hard time dialing in my max target boost with this issue going on.

Re: Pulsating boost?

I datalogged today. my timing surged with the boost but I didn't have knock. My timing surged from 15 deg down to 10 and back up to 15.

Re: Pulsating boost?

The base boost level of the stock actuator is ~8-9psi. If the engine boost is below that, it mean the load of the engine isn't producing enough exhaust gas energy to spin the turbo. It seems like the symptom you are seeing of part throttle boost fluctuations is the engine load is on border line of producing enough load to spin the turbo. The ECM boost control probably applifies the fluctuations. It could be due to the tune of the motor or knock retard causing it, but it could be just normal. When it happens trying giving he engine another bit of gas (~10% more throttle). The boost control should be noticably better.
