Alright gang, I need some help w/this. It has occured 3 or 4 times, and its bugging me. My Sy has shut down momentarily [like, for a split second] during passing maneuvers. Everything shuts down. Head lights, ignition, gauges...the works. I should mension the 3rd gear down shift, then manually upshift to OD, and the overboost problem Ive had since day one. [On the order of 18 to 20 psi! ]The weird thing is, the truck will continue to run immediately after this happens, but the gauges [speedometer, tach, fact. boost ] will max out till I slow down to 65 or 70 mph. Completely flopped over. The brake light will come as well. This is bad news, as it back fired once from the raw fuel hitting the turbine blade! And no codes either. Can anyone else relate?

Electrical. The downshifting and upshifting are part of the mix because it throws things back and forth. Check alternator, battery connections and grounds. Ground from the driver's side head to the firewall seems to be a pretty common one to leave off. You may have to do a datamaster to see what your voltages are doing. If it's bad enough, you'll probably just get a bunch of data errors.

Re: puzzled...

I checked my boost solenoid a while back and it was shot. I replaced it w/ a ghetto needle valve and that seems to do a better job than the factory solenoid. I have to watch how much boost I give it, just feather the throttle. I suspected the main grnd cable at first, but they are always tight, and corrosion free. Ill check the block grnd. As far as manually shifting goes, I have to. The thing shifts wierd, and will ping if i lay into it in OD. My sy never throws codes unless I disconnect a sensor. Timing sucks too. maybe time for a chain job. need a datamaster bad.

check the grounds under the driver dash ,or there is a 12v positive wire shorting to ground,i had that problem with a power wire to my msd ign

Re: puzzled...

Yes, the truck is basically stock w/33 lb lucas injectors. I also modified an eagle talon B.O.V to work w/the turbo. Made it adjustable, but it is still way too small. [poor man style]. I am building a new motor right now, although slow to come together. Just a basic build for now. I am considering scrapping the factory ecu and harness for a stand alone unit. Once I can get a solid tune going w/a fresh block and heads, then I`d start a real motor. 4 now I need to chase these gremlins under my hood.

Re: puzzled...

you know my saturn had the problem of just shutting off while driving down the road. completely dead and then it'd pick back up. i called saturn and talked to them and they said i needed to come buy so they could use their special tool to tighten the battery cable. turned out my ground cable was just a little loose didn't look loose but it was
