Rand Tech High Flow Cat

I was removing my stock exhuast and I ended up snapping one of the bolts going into stock cat. I don't want to spend the money on a stock cat and I don't want to go with an straight pipe and external wastegate.

I started looking into high flow cats, namely Random Technologies cats. I will be using a Borla cat back, but will I have problems with boost control with a Random Tech? I looked through the archive and found one owner who adjusted his wastegate to compensate, but I didn't find anyone else beside a few people mentioning overboost that it may overboost Is this something I will be able to control with some tweaking of the wastegate rod and/or ecm parameters in the chip? or am I playing with fire?

When I put 3 inch on my truck it started over boosting. I have a ans boost controller so it was no biggy for me, but I dont think that it always happens. So with a high flow cat and good exhaust you might overboost.

Re: Rand Tech High Flow Cat

Here are some information about high flow cats, straight from Rand Tech him self. I read it in a magazine when they tested different cats and they had Rand Tech explain about high flow cats.

Most newer cats (high flow or not) are using a 400 cells per square inch. Rand Tech was saying that it's the lenghs of the cells that deturmen the flow of the cat. The shorter the cells the higher flow, the longer the cells are the less the flow.

I bought a 2.5" in/out Catco cat (400 cells) from summit for my truck for $67.00. My cat is only 8" long with out inlet and outlet pipes, toatl lenght about 12-14".

With only 7-8" lenghts of cells in my cat it should flow pretty good, so don't get blinded on high dollar high flow cats when you can get a cheap one with the same flow.
