Randomly starts

My Sy starts 20 times in a row without issue and run great. Then randomly it will not start for a couple days. Then randomly it will start for a couple times and run fine. It's puzzling to me why it would not be a consistent issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just got it back from the mechanic after him having the truck for a week for a couple other maintenance things I've been neglecting. He said it never failed to start the whole time. He said it fired up instantly when he tried. Now it's at my house and it won't start again. Very frustrated

Re: Randomly starts

Check your purple wire, pass. Side near rear of exhaust manifold. Check the starter power connection. Wiggle the terminal on back of starter. Check battery terminals and ground connections.

Today, my starter just gave out. It actually happened last night. I heard a noise I didn't hear before. I had the occasional click. I saw that the back of my starter where the terminal connects snapped or broke/exploded. I was ready for it to be the Bendix gear. I felt the back where the main power terminal connects and I can practically spin it. ( guessing the main power stud snapped or something inside )

I don't know what the mechanic addressed that you put off, but it wouldn't hurt to go over the truck your self for a couple hours when it is cool. ( not ran ).

There for a second with the title, thought the truck was randomly starting on its own like Christine.

Stab it and steer it
Re: Randomly starts

Depends upon what "will not start" means. Will not crank or cranks but won't start. If it cranks but won't start it's not the purple wire. If the tack doesn't move as stated then it's probably the module.

THIS. It's the module or dist. No tach cranking is only this.Or the connections on the back of the dist, until DaveP corrects me.

Re: Randomly starts

When it does not start, it just makes a click sound. It will do this about 10 times, then start up with no hesitation. I will check the wire.

Re: Randomly starts

It turns out that the lever next to the ignition is out of adjustment. When I go to start the truck, if I push the lever all the way up as far as it can go and let it go back to normal position, it firs up every time without hesitation.

Could there be a wire in the column that is grounding on something or do you think the actual lever has an issue?
