Rear Window Hinge Replacement

My rear window hinge on me Typhoon is falling apart. Maybe because the window lifts are too stout. It can’t be because the rear air foil is lifting the truck on launches because I don’t have a rear foil.

Well, I went to GMS and they wanted $40.00 and they couldn’t even promise when it would be in. Something about GM not making them any more.

In a search on this forum, I found this discussion last year but it seems there wasn’t a resolution. http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=38012&highlight=hinge

I could go the salvage yard but will they start falling apart like mine.

Is anyone else having this problem and what did they do to fix it?

Suggestions please.

I picked up some from the salvage yard, I have a few nice condition ones , mine were dented from the bolts through the glass being way to tight

You'r saying the ones from the salvage yard aren't too ragged out? Pretty good shape?

What should I be looking out for? How do you spot a bad one?

Re: Rear Window Hinge Replacement

they are easy to remove 13mm for the hige to glass and t25 for hinge to body. I look for 4 door trucks, and when removed the hinge doesnt wobble side to side as much

On mine the hinge part was still good but the bolt that goes thru the glass and threads into the outside pad part stripped out. I got lucky and was able to retap it. What part is falling apart on yours?

The threaded part on the glass piece is breaking. I suspect the push up rods are too stiff and are putting too much of a bind on the hinge. Now, that side of the window is slipping down some (noticeably). My fear is that the hinge and the window will fall out on the street somewhere and then I'll have to get a whole new window.

I'll hit some salvage yards this weekend and let you know how things went.

Re: Rear Window Hinge Replacement

I bought mine from my local GMC Dealership. Goodyear, AZ. They had plenty from what I was told. They are on Litchfield Road in Goodyear, AZ. Dont know if you want to mess with shipping from another state, but mine are brand new with no flaws.
