Remember to check your "6"

I was stuck behind a pickup pulling a load of dirt on a $20/day trailer. I was 3rd vehicle back, doing 35 in a 55. Finally got to a clear passing zone. Both vehicles in front of me pull out to pass. No problem. I wait till they return to the right lane and proceed to blow by them as they are still accelerating. The Dodge pickup, in the lead, decides he doesn't want to be passed, floors it. Too bad. By the time I hit 65, I'm clear and pull back into the right lane, slow to 60. Apparently the Sheriff 3 vehicles behind ME was impressed, 'cause he had to pull me over to tell me so. Just gave me a warning 'failure to properly signal a lane change' and was grinning the whole time. Said "everyone in line behind you expected me to do SOMETHING".

Moral of the story: remember to check your '6' before lighting the afterburners.

My radar detector was silent, and from the LEOs angle I doubt he could tell that the pickup was giving me grief. He just saw me go supersonic in the left lane, with no signals. He was pretty young, and had an observer in the car. He was actually pretty cool about the whole thing. Besides... the pickup, punching it at 40 when I was already at full boost, had about the same effect as if he stuck out his arm and started flapping it...
