Removing motor mount pads.

I'm installing Jeff's motor mount plates an have a question. I have the manifolds and turbo off. I was able to do the Pass. side with a lot of cussing and now i'm trying the drivers side. I removed the 2 lower bolts off the stock plate but how the heck do you get to the nut for the top bolt. Can it be done with leaving the front Diff in place?

A side note: I did have to loosen the tranny mount and pry the engine forward to get the mounts to line up.

Yes, it can be done. Or at least, it can be done on most trucks -- some apparently have less room than others.

Anyways, on my Ty, I was able to sneak an open-ended wrench up to hold the nut for removing the top bolt. You might need to rotate the bolt (which will turn the nut) until the sides of the nut line up with the opening in the wrench.

BTW, to reinstall the bolt/nut, I put electrical tape on the wrench so the nut was a tight friction-fit, and then used the wrench to hold the nut in place while putting the bolt back in.

Well. after days of cusing and breaking stuff the motor mounts and pads are in.
Thanks for the tip Bill. I was able to get to the last bolt.. what a pain.
I didn't remove the drivers side wheelwell either.

Here's what I learned it might help some other people.

Removing the mounts and pads are a PITA..
Installing the new ones aren't as bad.
Wear gloves, the heat shields and everything else will try to cut you.
I had trouble with the center bolts lining up onthe new mounts.. I hammered one in ok but the other wouldn't go. I took the bolt to the grinder and tappered the end and then hammered that one in the other side. It took a bit of hitting and moving the engine around but it finally went in.

Thanks Jeff the mount pads are top notch. Just like everyone else says the mounts are great but the install sucks..
I'll NEVER do another set with the engine in the truck..

Wow, another brave soul tackles the motor mounts with the engine installed. I'm glad you posted this since I'm going to install the same mounts during the next few weeks. I also ordered the ES poly tranny mount so I'll just loosen all three at once so I can move things around. Couple of questions for you:

1. Did you reuse the stock heat shields?
2. Did you have to jack up the cab at all?
3. How many hours did the whole process take?
4. How does the truck feel with the new mounts? Have you done a boosted launch with them yet?

I too plan on removing the turbo, DP, and exhaust manifolds before trying to attempt this. Not looking forward to it but it'll be worth it in the end

I resused the drivers side and remade the pass. side out of some alum from a home improvement store. The original pass side one got all bent up and stuff.
2. Did you have to jack up the cab at all?
No
3. How many hours did the whole process take?
I have no idea, it took me a few nights a few hours each day

HHAHAHA you think i have the truck all put together... I have a couple of nights work before I can start it up. I forget what a boost launch feels ike in my SY. With the PTE63 on it and a stock converter I won't build boost off the line.
