Uh the cops seem to think that razor blades work good. My roomate says use a razor blade and windex. Ill do it for 59.95 a window :lol:
Sounds like it'd be cheaper to get new windows.
That seems outrageously high to me. You shoulda did a crappy job when it was originally installed - then in a few months it just would have started peeling. I'll ask around to a couple guys I work with - see if they have any recommendations.

AutoZone has a tint glue remover, of course it's not professional grade but it will work. Just rip the tint off, spray it down, let it sit a few minutes then use a razor to get all the gunk off.
If you haven't done tinting before heres a tip. Precut your pieces by placing the tint, with backing still on, on the outside of the glass your going to tint. Just make sure that you put it glue side out. Then precut it as much as you can, that way when you get ready to put it on most of the work is done.

My shop (i own it) charges 30 Total for both 2 front doors for removal at inspection time. We use a product called simple pink and razor blades. The simple pink makes the glue have a consistancy of something between snot and rubber cement.
Best descrition i coould thinkof.
On defrosters we use steel wool instead of a blade. If you cant find simple pink the autozone stuff may help, but i never tried it.
With the right chemical it should take about 10-15 minutes for 2 doors.

dude, this is what you do.
Step 1: use wide masking tape, and tape off any plastic or leather parts close to that window.
Step 2: Get a NEW single edge razor blade to help peel the edge of the tint film up. The yank the film off the window.
Step 3: Get a can of Brake Parts Cleaner, and spray a small area of the window. (start with a 6" x 6" square, till you get the hang of it).
Step 4: Take the NEW razor, and simply scrape the tint adhesive off. use a papertowel to clean the razor blade.
Step 5: repeat steps 3 & 4 till window is clean.
Step 6: spary some brake cleaner on a new paper towel, and wipe the window down to remove any missed spots.
Step 7: clean window with windex or other glass cleaner.
*NOTE: it is very important to have a fresh new razor blade, if you choose not to, you will be kicking yourself when an hour rolls by and your still not done the first window.

I personally went to Sears, and they had a nice long-handled razor blade scraper. I think I paid $10 for it. Unlike the little razor blade scrapers that you can extend/retract the blade, this one just has a clip that you slide the blade into, and holds it very firmly. I did a search on the web for techniques, but none worked very well, so I just got this tool and scraped the heck out of the windows. I went through about 2 blades per window and it worked fine. About 10 minutes a size.

The brake cleaner spray seems like a good idea, but that stuff's fumes can mess you up. I'd personally get a respirator before using that, and then do it outside, and cover the door panel with a nice, thick piece of something.

there was a trick I've been told many times about, dont see it here yet.
tape off a plastic bag on the window and spray some (tint remover?) inside, tape it around all corners and leave it out in the sun for a few hours.
supposed to loosen it up nicely from what I hear.

I guess it probably depends on the tint's adhesive, but Windex (ammonia-based window cleaner) took all the adhesive off a friend's window after a tint job gone bad... He spent forever scraping one side with a razor blade, and we wiped off the other side with the Windex...
I did what syty archives suggested for my rear window with defogger.
In a spray bottle filled with bottle I put 2-3 drops of laundry detergent.
Totally soak the window then put the plastic garbage bag you had pre-cut earlier and just push the plastic bag onto the glass until it's "sticking" to the glass. Smooth it out with your hand and let it sit in direct sun for 15-20 minutes. What it basically does is help "steam" the tint so it's easier to peel it off with the adhesive. Whatevers left over just spray with your detergent solution or glass cleaner and scrape with a razor.

On the inside windows just rip the tint off however you can.
Thats the easy part.
Now you gotta get the adhesive off.
The best homemade solution is to mix some ammonia and water, use a sponge/scouring pad like you would for dishes.
Make sure to get a couple packs of scrubbers.
Don't use goo gone or anything with petroleum base if you plan on tinting them again right away.
An oily film is not going to hold new tint for very long if at all.
I just had my Z71 tinted out last night and had a long talk about ripping the tint out of the Ty and redoing it right away in a newer and darker material.
He told me whatever the price is to tint it double that to remove the old tint.
Tint itself is usually about $3 / linear foot, so the cost is all labor.

leave your truck in a parking lot while at work, then some nice gentlemen will come over and knock your window out with a hammer (for free, no charge!!!) then just replace window as needed with non-tinted replacement. It is truly that easy, no razor blades or any chemicals.
Only you have to let him take all of you stereo crap when he leaves. :x
