rod bearings

i got a typhoon with a bad head gasket from a guy in ohio, brought it back rebuilt the top end.. had sparks issues for a little while.. couldnt get it to run, got that out of the way.. had it running great, noticed a little oil leak under the truck, wasnt a big deal ended up being the dip stick tube had a crack in it.. but while i was under the truck i could hear a knock.. couldnt hear it above the car or in the car only underneath.. so i drained the oil, it was temp oil anyway, but i noticed it had glittery oil.. so i rip the oil filter apart, and i find some metal shavings.. not alot but enough that its not normal wear..

so now that i have one more of the many problems ive had.. what are the chances of me being able to just change the rod bearings... and the crank not being messed up.. if i can i would rather not pull the motor since i just got all of it put back together and in the car, and just change the bearings while the motor is still in the car..

so im lookin for some input on what to do.. im almost at the point of giving up with this thing.. lol.. its just one thing after another.. aint even got to drive it yet..

Re: rod bearings

well, if youve got a bang and metel, then youve got a bearing going out somewhere...the sooner you tear it apart the better. If its a crank, then if you catch in time you could get it remachined for a bit cheaper then getting a whole new one...I had my crank go out due to a bad oil pump, and i ended up buying a scat crank for about 300 dollars. I could have done a budget rebuild for pretty cheap, but I ended up buying some of the more pricey things...

IF youve got the ability to fix it, that being the mechanical aptitude, and/or the finances i would recommend tearing the truck down and rebuilding it. you may want to find someone locally who has a truck you can drive to see if you even enjoy all that is typhoon, before you invest the time and money into something you dont even know if you enjoy. I personally love my ty more than anything else ive ever driven...

Re: rod bearings

yea i know ill love it.. aint to many around here tho, the ones that are aint in the best shape.. i was just dreading pullin the motor apart again.. i just got it back together last week.. and running this week.. so a scat crank is $300? what the difference between that one and a stock? cuz the rest of the motor is already mild built, i duno about the crank though havent got it apart yet.. i know it has a cam in it.. just dont know what it is, and kb pistons .30 over, rods, not sure..diamond push rods, dont know bout lifters.. the car lot i got it from didnt know anything was done to it other then upgraded turbo and exhaust..im prolly gona start pullin the motor this weekend.. theres just so much to take apart to work on these trucks and as much as ive already done.. is pretty discouraging.. ya know..
