Well it was a bit longer for me since we took our time to disc the chassis to spread some paint on it. hardest part was getting torsion bars loose from rear crossmember. The wholef ront is tight as can be. I recently install ZQ8 box and new idler and pitman arms, the only thing not new is the center link. We were working on it in my buddies race car shop so it wasn't total focus on it. We would stop and talk for 15 20 mins then start again. The stance is awesome but just concerned with ride quality. The springs feel so stiff. We will see.

That orange wire (egt?) looks very close to the downpipe in the pics... just in case you didn't catch it.

Looks real good, only thing I was wondering is why don't you have both jam nuts on the tie rods? The outer tie rod can move slightly if that jam nut isn't there and it will be a little tough to align.
Your truck is looking real good keep up the work.

Re: RPM Front Coilover Set-Up Installed!

How tough was the install? is it something you can do yourself with the truck sitting on jackstands?

UPS tried to deliver my front and rear suspension friday but I didn't hear them knock on the door so now I have to wait until next weekend to install :(

I'll be doing an RPM front coilover, rear double adjustable coilovers, belltech front/rear sway bars and lowering leafs, a new rear bushing set, ZQ8 box, new steering shaft, and new ball joints.

also I'll be going over the frame with eastwood rust encapsulator and paint.

Yes you can do it in the garage on jack stands. I have done 3 suspensions, so I have some experience, but plan on taking 2 day to do it. I could probably do the coilovers in a long day. You need to have the upper bushing of the old A-arms pressed out, then new bushing pressed in and will to cut the frames for clearancing (I use an angle ginder with a thin cutting wheel).

I want to do the coil over mod too. With the coil overs the vehical weight is now being supported by the shock towers. Is there any concern that there may be some breakage there after some time?Wouldnt take much to add some gussets for strength but does anyone see a need to?

How is the shock towers supporting the weight different from stock?

The torsion bars held the weight before. I haven't done mine yet, but eventually I will fully weld the shock tower to the frame. The stock shock towers are spot welded.

Good Observatrion! Edelbrock screwed up. Someone packed all left threaded jam nuts instead of 2 rights and 2 lefts. They should be here on Monday. Of course since they are 11/16 jam nuts no one carries this size.

Hey Dave,

Since you have done 3 set-ups. Does it seem that they get stiffer with the coilovers. My chassis guy who helped me seems to think the springs are too heavy for our trucks. The truck has very little give in the front when pushing down on it.

thanks Ralph

I haven't done an RPM suspension. The other big difference between the JS and RPM (beside the ball joint angles) is the higher mounting point of the lower mount. The lower mount mean that you have to compress the spring to get to the desired ride height and effectively give a higher spring rate. This also means the lower the truck the softer the spring rate. (you truck looks to be in the 27" range) You might want to try RPM spring spacers or you could also use a softer spring. Another thing is that you want to set the shocks rebound on the shocks very low, I have set mine at 2 or 3. Dennis Kaese had his shock set to 15 and he was complaining about fillings fall out. Personally my JS suspensions feels similiar to stock except that has lost a lot of the harness that torsion bar had when go over bumps.

Yea it was just about 27 inches but that is with the spacers in it already. We set the springs orginally without them and it was like it was oon bags tire was up in the wells. So the lower shock mount is more of an angle then straight up and down " this is what my chassis guy said and he was saying he thinks i should go to a 450 lb spring since we got 600's with the kit. Mine are at number 2 of 18 settings , we had them at 9 and it was bouncing off the tires not even the suspension.

Do you know what spring JS made with his kits. I saw on TurboTime 575/600/650's so i am asuming the yare almost the same.

Thanks for the info Dave.

600's. PEP's used a 400# spring but his shocks were 2" longer (spring longer as well) than the QA1's, so the springs ended up being compressed quite a bit (and PIA to do). 450#'s seems like quite a bit softer but you could always fool around with the shock coil/rebound settings.

so are these spacers included in the kit?

I see 1" spacer listed as an option for a stock ride height.

I don't want to keep the stock ride height :(

Does the RPM kit allow for the stock swaybar?

Yes it does have the mounts for your stock swaybar.

I use mine for more racing so i don't use it, but the tapped holes are there for the use.

we have been including them free of charge.

QA1 also makes a taller shock, but we use a 500# spring with a 2" spacer which gives it more of a stock ride stance. The 2.25" id spring really limits your choices, but is mandatory for clearance.
