Sandblasting Valve Covers

I want to get my valve covers powdercoated, and of course they must be sandblasted first. My issue is that I really don't want to run the risk of getting any sand down in the baffles. Anyone know how to remove the baffles? I tried pulling on them, but didn't want to break them or not be able to get em back in.

When I did mine I ripped the rubber out of the top. You will ruin it doing this but autozone has replacement rubber. I don't think the baffles come out. I'm pretty sure I was able to get all of the sand out no problem.

Why not look into soda blast instead, the soda will break down with water when rinsed, less chance of issues.

Hmmm. If the baffles don't come out, then it's probably not worth it to pull the rubber out. I thought the rubber was holding them in place. I could probably just cover up both sides and blast around it. Did you remove and powdercoat the inside too, or just the outside?

That's a smart idea, I will have to look into it. I just thought since I had a blasting cabinet I would do it here.

I sandblasted them down to the bare metal on the outside. I think I lightly hit the inside just to clean them up.. I only powder coated the outside.. Its been several years. I don't remember the details 100%...
