Securing truck on a trailer question

So I will be trailering both my Ty's to Nats here in a couple days. Just wanted to hear opinions on securing trucks to the trailer.

Trailer is a two car Kaufman

I will be using HD nylon ratcheting straps. My main question is whether to tie it to the frame and compress the suspension or not. I'm thinking not to compress the suspension because it will never compress completely and over dips in the road the truck might compress some, put slack in the strap and then snap back tight.

Any comments would be appreciated :tup:

The best way to strap any car is to non moving/suspended areas. (rear axle, front a arms, etc.)

I have seen guys with race cars then strap the body to chassis to keep the shocks from being used on the car being towed to save on wear/tear of the suspension, making it fixed.

With that said, I have a method I strap syty's down that has worked for me, yet doesn't follow rule above.

2 straps around rear axle, criss cross is best.
2 strap on front, criss cross, go back to frame about door hinge area, there is a large hole you can put the hook inside the frame and go forward.

Towed a syty probably as many or more miles as I have driven them, never had an issue with this method.

also secure the straps while in neutral to avoid putting strain on the trans while in park. Emergency brake 1st, strap down then park.

I am borrowing/renting the trailer from a friend of a friend. Its not brand new but it does seem nice. Thanks for the tips

X2. When I had my 16 foot hydraulic tilt trailer, I secured mine the same way. The only thing that I did different was that I used two axle straps with "D" rings on them to wrap around rear axle.

best way to do it in my book, had a buddy loose one one the highway cause the car being trailed bounced enough to drop the straps off the front (wonderful illinois roads) , it rolled off the trailer and got drug till it broke from the rear straps...... totalled none the less.

possibly operator error but who knows, front lower control arms and x the rear axle for me..... but to each his own... everybody has their prefrence....... key if you ask me is after fifty or so miles down the road pull over and check the straps and do it every gas stop along the way. be surprised how the loosen up a bit.

Probably wasn't purdy and broke a couple above rules but I towed my Sy to and from Las Vegas with the parking brake set and in park, obviously. First strap went over the anti-roll bar, under the front X-member then back over the anti-roll bar to each side of the trailer. At the rear I used two straps connected through holes in the frame diagonally out to that side. (No crossing of the straps.) Simple, worked good, nothing ever loosened.

The best way any more is through wheels with straps, although if your trucks have stock wheels don't do it this way, stock wheels will cut the straps. Axle and front control arms is your best bet. If you have access to some straps from the towing world, you can take advantage of the t-slots and strap there, which is even better.

Since I have the cbr battlebars, they have a hookup point built right into them. and on the front I wrap around the front a-arms. Check straps at every fuel stop or every hour or 2.

No I don't have a seller lined up at Nats, just figured if I was trailering one, might as well trailer both.

Looking good. Any idea how much weight that is including the trailer?? What are you towing with?
