Shindig Update

Okay, so things are getting back to normal around here and I finally have the time to push forward with the Shindig full steam. Sorry for the neglect over the recent months (building a house is a hectic experience for sure). So here's where we stand:

Date - November 5-7th, 2010

Location - Savannah, GA

Hotel - I will have options for us available soon, but we should be able to get a group rate around $60 per night or so. Location will likely be right off of I-95 just an exit or two away from I-16, so really accessible from the Interstates.

Racing - AutoX is a definite go and we're going to work in conjunction with the local Solo club, utilizing their experience, course design, and equipment. Should be a great time. Drag Racing is gonna happen, but I'm waiting on some rates from the track as to whether or not a half day rental is feasible. If not, we'll just crash a normal test-n-tune night. One downside, the drag strip is a good 45 min drive from the hotel. Working to try and remedy that via alt locations.

Food - Pope is handling this, but I do know that we'll have a low country boil (link) and possibly some BBQ. This will be a "registration-inclusive" meal taking place on Saturday (lunch) most likely. We're trying to avoid catering to reduce cost.

Raffle - We're starting the process of getting some sponsors, but with tough economic times, we're not expecting a miracle. We will have a raffle/giveaway, but the magnitude is still in question. We'd like to have one the size of Nats, but we'll see. More info to come on this, and if you have something you'd like to donate or if you'd like to be a sponsor, contact me or Adam (syO237).

Schedule - Pretty straightforward and similar to Nats. Will have something concrete in the coming months.

Pre-Registration - We were trying to hold off until all costs came in, but we hope to have pre-reg open by July. Crossing fingers.

Trophies - Need someone to grab this and run with it. I dropped the ball on the 2008 trophies and don't want to do that again (BTW, I'll have those at the event to give to the respective winners from.....um.....2 years ago ). We have all the awards classes figured out, just need someone to help organize the production of the actual trophies (homemade or contracted), get costs, and handle their delivery to the event. Anyone? Bueller?

T-Shirts - Pretty sure Tim is gonna take the reins on this in both design and production. Will get with him on final design and cost (so as to better figure the reg cost).

More to come soon.....questions thus far?

Re: Shindig Update

Can you post the dates (and the location, Savannah right?) in this post so that we don't have to search for it?

Re: Shindig Update

Mike is it going to be eight mile or 1/4?
1/8 mile unless we drive up to Carolina Dragway, but that would be a 1.5 hour drive.

Added to this post and a new post created.

PM sent to you and Adam in regards to donations.
Awesome, thanks T Jay!

Re: Shindig Update

I just noticed my dates are wrong on my design.. I wonder why.. :scratchinghead:

Umm.. I just need to know how many and in what sizes. It looks better on a white shirt so that will be the color. Keep in mind the sooner I know the number/sizes the faster I can get them done. Its going to take some times to do these. So I need this before anything or they will be late.

Could have got a little faster heads up on all this..

Re: Shindig Update

Any Tennessee or Kentucky folks decided if they are going to make it?

If you are, are you driving down? Flying? Flat-bedding it?

I am not sure if I trust my truck driving all the way down there. :rotf:

Once we figure out if anyone from around here is going and want to "caravan down".

The first weekend in November has been the plan since last year. Not sure why there was ever any indication of another weekend. :dunno: What dates did you have on the design?

.....and all of this kind of came together suddenly, but it's not like the event is right around the corner. We have over 4 months before the event rolls around, and we hope to have a head count by the end of July (which would leave 97 days to the event). We're gonna open registration soon and that'll get us an idea on numbers, but we can build a buffer into the head count like last time and we'll have plenty I'm sure.

I will be there. I would like to drive, but trailering is an option.

Re: Shindig Update

More updates:

- Registration will be open soon. Bear with us while we work out all the final costs. Please ignore the registration info posted on sytyshindig.com for now, as those costs are just for coding/testing purposes.
- Savannah Solo Chapter is on board with us to organize the AutoX. Location is still being worked out but cost and their participation is definite.
- Hotel info will be posted very soon. I have a price battle between 2 hotels that I'm waiting to end and we'll know where we're staying. Cost is gonna be around $49.99 per night (we hope).

More to come soon.....
