Slipping at WOT?

I've had transmisions lose bands from 1-2 but I'm to SYs and I can't figure out what this is:

Shifts hard and normal rpm 1-2-3-4 under 80% throttle

Under WOT launch is good, shifts to 2nd and seems to lose torque at 4500 and when it finaly shifts to 3rd is pulls like crazy. Same deal when going into 4th.

Tinkered with the TV cable and can't seem to get that right (maybe because thats not the problem)

What's the 1st thing I should check next?

Make sure fluid is full while engine is warm. When was the last trans fluid and filter change? Recheck the TV cable, as this causes major issues on the 700. There is a plug on passenger side of engine that connects to the trans...make sure it's clean inside and reconnect it (lockup wires). Other than that you're looking at worn clutch packs, it happens on a vehicle 20 years old. Has it been rebuilt?

New fluid when replacing the rear main. Looks like the transmission has been pulled but I don't know much more then that. Car is almost completly stock and in VERY good shape. After running through all the basic tune stuff the power is there without a mis and little to no knock on datamaster.

The TV cable looks to be in good shape and clicks when you adjust it. No guarantees it holding that adjustment. One thing I noticed is I can't pull the shifter down into 1 or 2. Cable feels like it's stuck on something.

That's a good description...at 4500 the motor loses power until the downshift. What would you suggest I do?

I had the same problem on my other sy. The bolt that hold the shifter cable to the trans might be lose check that. After I fixed that bolt I was able to shift it into 1st

Re: Slipping at WOT?

Do you have a HD propshaft installed on it? That may prevent the linkage from moving to L position. Your shift point issue could be (and probably is) a separate issue.

Re: Slipping at WOT?

If you have the stock chip and late transmission shifts you might be hitting the rev limiter at 4600rpm.

Re: Slipping at WOT?

Look like someone put an old Hypertech chip in it dated 1993. I think it may be hitting the rev limiter so I'll try the TV cable to get it shift a little sooner. I guess that could be mistaken as slipping.

Took it to the shop...broken sprag. Glad I took it to good local builder because these are not just 700r4 they're super beefed up with corvette parts. Buying one online would be a huge mistake IMOP

Re: Slipping at WOT?

Tell them to just fix whats broken and thats it. Unless you want to upgrade the clutches. But thats about all you need to do.
