Solid Motor Mounts

Guy's that are using them, what do you think? The only person that I found running them was Typhoonracer. Steve, if you or anyone else using them could answer a few ?'s. First, how do you like them? Do they transmit a large ammount of vibration to the truck? My Ty is not a daily driver so it is not a huge concern. What ones are you using? I have found a few available from moroso and others. And last, which ones did you like? Or mabye it dosen't matter. I also found that moroso has two different kinds, a long and a short.I am going to guess that it is the short stout ones that they have(can't recall the part number off of my head) are the correct ones but am unsure. Again any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I am 99% sure they don't make one to bolt in in place of stock syty style.

You can use the standard sbc solid mounts with the frame pads I make.

Going from memory, and being still early for me, I believe it is the shorter ones.

I run the short style solid mounts. I got tired of changin the poly's and wasting money on them.

vibration is about the same. not a real big deal.

i am running them now i seemed to have no good luck with a mount with rubber/poly either way, i melt them, kill them. Solid is what has been put on my truck to help to limit the engines movement, Mike Lee from RPM had run this same mount and now i am too.

What about just putting in a new set of stock mounts that are 0 years old instead of 12 years? I beleive this is what Mark Larson found to be the best solution, wonder if he could chime in here to relate his experiences, he was quite upset with one of his prior setups.

Those who have melted poly mounts… How well insulated were they? I just finished installing mine and planned on wrapping them up like mummies with fiberglass header wrap. With as much of a pain as the install was, I don’t mind spending some extra $$ to insulate them from radiant heat, but if well-insulated polys are melting, perhaps heat conducted through the block/mounts is the culprit. I see no way around that other than back to rubber or solid mounts. Anyone know the exact temperature the polys melt at? Somebody ease my mind here… :(

js had the melting temp of poly and it was seothing stoopid like 200 deg F.

I wrapped mine as best you could. reused the stock shields and it still happened.

dump the polys go solid or stock with a strap.

If you look at the specs for polyurethane in general the melting temp is low.

If you add fillers, etc it can be raised some.

I called ES about the problem, and they basically told me it is a common problem, they have no plans to fix.

I work with some other plastic at work here, and was trying to use it, although it has other downsides, although temp is MUCH improved. ~600deg.

Thanks for the info guys. It stinks to find this out, but at least I know now before the headers, turbo, IC, and front suspension are back in…

Anybody want to buy a set of poly mounts?

Yup, Tooky's right. Larson had poly's in there for a while and hated them. He tried a couple different things but in the end just went and bought brand new stock Sy/Ty mounts and put a torque strap on it and never had a problem after that. I have my stock mounts in mine with 2 straps and have yet to have a problem. One strap from the alt to the frame and one from the back of the drivers side head to the frame.

Well, after learning that I have to swich out the frame mounts also I think that I am just going to go with the stock frame mounts and try to make a tie down for the motor. I can't use the alternator because I have made some "modifications" to the alternator bracket for a custom tensioner and I wan't to try to avoid using it if I can. I think I will try what Mark did and make a tie down for the rear driver side of the motor. Thanks for the help guys!

Sorry it took me so long to find this.....

Yes I also melted the poly mounts....

I have ( you must use) modified frame pads to use solids...
A little more vib comes through but not bad...

MUCH EASIER TO INSTALL MOTOR WITH SOLIDS!!!!!!!
THAT is a big plus!!!

Well, as i read this topic a few days ago, i really started to ask myselve if there isn't a solution, because there are problems for (& i have those poly's)

So i took these pics of "what could be a solution"

1.JPG

maybe you should put the rubbers on the chassis, and put the plates on the block, the holes should need some grinding to get al the bolts in.

here is the Orig. heatshield, almost fits.

Tell me what you think, the holes almost alingh with the old setup.
maybe you have to swap the left and right sides of the plates.

it won't stop the poly from melting. I've already tried the stock shields and they didn't work

fuck, my fault.
but annyway, if you put them on the right way, it will be alot further away from the mannifold.
i tried it that way only 0.5 inch awayfrom the stock location.
Good notice

The whole poly thing has mad me as upset as anybody.

Several people have told me going solid is not as bad as it sounds, in terms of vibration. Luckily my frame pads work for them also.

While at SEMA I asked ES about the issue. Conversation went something like this.

ME: "What is the max operating temp of your motor mounts?"
ES Rep: "Um, (look of you got me), not very much, let me ask so and so."
"Around 200 deg."

ME: "thats it, how do you think that is going to hold up on cars?"

ES Rep: More excuses, backpedding, etc.

ME: "I have several trucks that have experienced melting issues on your mounts."

ES Rep: "Yea, it happens often. Pep boys and other places all sell them fairly cheap, you can just buy new ones and replace when they melt!"

Needless to say I was more than irritated. So with that said, I FULLY apologize to anybody with them. So in the short term, go solid. In the long term, ES has convinced me to unveil a new motor mount, that WORKS!!

Not to give to much info but

Will be rebuildable, able to be converted from solid or rubberish, etc.

Now, once I finish suspension I can start on this can of worms.

I'm needing to change out motor mounts and was going to go with soild ones. Did a search on it to see if anything good came and I found this. The question I have is...What exactly do you mean by "modified frame pads" and where can I get them? TIA.
