Solid Motor Mounts

ed hess

race or get outta the way
i had jeffs mounts on my truck with polys, got them from mccoy.
had the motor out a couple weeks ago and put moroso (chrome) solid mounts on in place of the polys. the polys were in maybe 9 months and looked like they mght have been warmed a bit and i have headers. nothing severe but over time i figured they werent going to last. So i put moroso mounts in and they bolted rightup to jeffs mounting pads.

no diference in vibration whatsoever and the knock sensor didnt notice.

I think people around here used to say it would have an effect.
Not everyting you read can allways be taken for 100%.

While at SEMA I asked ES about the issue. Conversation went something like this.

You should have said something to me!
We could have video taped them and got them uncomfortable enough to take it seriously...
Tell 'em we are from HotRod TV or something!

Hopefully that was not the day I ran into you and Nolan in line...
Wouldn't have been able to operate the camera!

Thanks Jeff. I'll check them out.

Ed, do you happen to remember the part number for the Moroso solid mounts? I was looking in Summit for them and came up with two possibilites. There was a tall one and a short one.

GM used an odd mount on the s series trucks. No aftermarket mounts are available that I am aware of besides a stock rubber style, which by design tends to pull apart.

Luckily, or unlucky depending on outlook GM bolted a pad to the frame. Hence the modified pads replace those and allow for the use of the ever so standard small block chevy motor mount used for 20+ years with several aftermarket alternatives available.

I was approached 3yrs ago to make a new pad that allowed for the use of the more common mounts.

I pretty sure I get it now. I was surfing around yesterday and came across Jeff's website. Good job on the site Jeff. Great pics and instructions.
