Sorry, but Ignition issues help!

The Sy has been out of commission for about 2 years now. Left in the garage for some time due to it not taking priority over other stuff. Back now trying to resolve some issues with it.
1) before it stopped starting it had a stumble to it (during idle the rpm needle would jump around just before it would stumble, then stall with a cel) I have an obd1 scan tool and was going to troubleshoot that issue and then it stopped starting (it used to click click click before starting and now nothing).
It always had the click before staring since I bought it (I'm like the 5th owner on it).
So I wanted to address the starting issue before going into the main issue of the general running problem, since I could at least move it before.

2) Purple wire... seemed burnt being so close to the DP, was not receiving voltage off of the post it connects to on the solenoid when trying to start it (12v) . Removed that wire and spliced in a larger 10g wire and butt spliced it into the original.
*The failure to start thing really came out of the blue... just one day nothing, first response was battery since it had been sitting so long... new battery nothing, same.
After splicing in the new wire I am still not receiving 12v to the starter solenoid....
I double checked the wire and connections...same.

I was able to jump the purple wire post on the solenoid over to the hot wire and turn the starter over so it seems like the solenoid is engaging with voltage applied.
Decided to check the safety switch on the center console on the shifter to check for 12v, when I turn the key over I still have no voltage off of the yellow wire on the safety interlock...I made sure it was in the park position several times but still not seeing 12v on it.
I was really hoping it would just be the safety switch was NG.
Next steps in the book is to check the yellow wire for shorts to the ignition inside the cab, bit I can't see that being an issue but I can't just cancel it out yet.

3) Fuse box, I checked the fuses for the ING (odd there are 2 sets of ING receptors but it seems like the one outlined in white is not used?)
All the fuses are okay inside the box (hazard, ECM, ING) all are intact.
* the reverse lights do light up when positioned in reverse...

Guys, I am out of ideas here.. my next step is to find someone in the Portland OR area to help fix or pay $$$ to get it fixed unless there are some other ideas I can try.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

I would look at ignition switch that is bolted to the bottom of the steering column. You can pull it apart and clean it up if needed as temporary fix (their spring that hold the context to together, so be careful.)

Re: Sorry, but Ignition issues help!

Thanks for the advice and the write up link. Interesting the 12V should be there on the yellow wire even when not in the park position (I will double check this again next weekend).
After reading more, I am now becoming leery of the Alarm system that one of the previous owners had put in. This thing is a mess of wires and I have zero idea what to do with it...lol
Is there a way to bypass some of this and just verify that the ignition switch is good? Or that I have power past the ignition housing?
Thanks, Dave

Re: Sorry, but Ignition issues help!

Does anything else work? Key on light up the inst panel, radio? Acc for example the radio? Just no 12v on the yellow?

Don, correct, the interior lights/dash/dimmer/turn signals all work, the AC/Heater seems to function okay to. I plan on checking the steering column switch out this weekend since I believe the same 12v yellow wire runs from there to the neutral safety switch?
Thanks again for the help guys.

Re: Sorry, but Ignition issues help!

The switch sits on top of the steering column. You have to drop the column to get to it. If you pull the part of the dash that is under the column (it has to come off anyway) then maybe you can see if the alarm people cut into that wire somewhere. Might just save having to drop the column.

Re: Sorry, but Ignition issues help!

Don, I had a thought today... are there any fuses inside the engine bay or firewall I should check first before tearing into the steering column? I checked the fuses inside the cab but I didn't think about relays or fuses inside the engine bay. I checked the wiring diagrams and it seems there are some just not 100% on the locations yet...

Re: Sorry, but Ignition issues help!

Thanks for the advice guys!
Tracing the 12v back to the column did help resolve the issue.
The security system was causing the 12v to be stopped at the column, I guess its for anti-theft. Anyways it still doesn't runt but tries to start now, so that is a small win to me.
I suspect I have bad gas since It has to be over 2 years old now.
