Speedometer/gauge issues...

SyTyless......for now!
Just got Ty 1902, now trying to work out issues, they are as follows:

Dash lights do not work
Foglights do not work
Pwr mirrors do not work
Speedo reads very low, slow to move
Horn does not work
Pwr locks do not work
Odometers do not work

So far I've checked all the fuses, replaced the missing "brake" fuse, checked the wiring to the DRAC, and looked for the ground wire hooked to the accel pedal bracket or alternatively by the parking brake. Now I'm sort of stumped, I think there's a bad ground behind the cluster somewhere, but I want to know where before I have to rip it out. Any ideas? A little more info:

All other gauges work: Boost, tach, water temp, oil, and voltage. Pwr windows do work as well.

Any and all input appreciated, the dash lights and speedo issue are my primary concern.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...[update]

Got the dash lights working, the switch was bad, got the speedo and odo working, but theres a catch- the speedometer reads low, about 20 low. Checked grounds, theyre all good, installed a new VSS, still stumped. Could this be caused by a bad DRAC? The blue wire looks to be good. TIA.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Thanks for the help, here's where we are now:

All gauges work, speedometer does work, but reads low and is slow to move.

Dash lights work, it turned out to be a faulty switch

Dome lights do work, tail lights work

Pwr door locks do not work

Horn, Foglights, and mirrors dont work

Cluster has been taken out a week or two ago, connections look good. Traced grnd wire 150, hooked up properly.

Trip odometer doesnt work.

TC doesn't lock either.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Thanks, I'll be sure to check those. Did more investigating with the speedometer, even swapped DRACs between the Sy and Ty, same problem. Am I safe to conclude that it's the speedometer itself? It works consistantly, but reads 20 low. Is this something that can be repaired at a shop, or does the whole cluster have to be replaced?

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Nope, no white faces, stock cluster with 87K on the odo.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Old thread brought back, still working on these issues. Checked to be sure the shunts were in, and they were. Checked all the connections at the switches, they were good. Checked the foglight relay with a DVOM, it was good. However, I did find a wire going to nowhere behind the drivers headlight...Kinda hard to see, sorry:

its the green wire with the connector on the end.

I really dont know were else to check to get the foglights to work. The other issues (locks and mirrors) are annoying as well though.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Not positive but I believe that could be your horn wire. Have you been able to hook up a scan tool to it and see if that is showing any ting abnormal? It would show what your speed is and see if that is different than the dash.
I assume you have no power at the power locks etc then?

Goofy problem I will think about it and see if I can help.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Well, I'm pretty certain the gauge cluster itself is bad, since I swapped in a new VSS and swapped DRACs with the Sy. No access to a scantool yet, unfortunately, but no CEL on either.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Well to me that looks like horn wire, I just had to replace the missing horn on my so gt and it was the green wire by the headlight. gkrcr882 see if you have a horn and if it has any wires going to it, if not I would bet thats the wire for it.

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

You said that the clear and black connectors come apart: I tried, and no such luck. It also appears that there really isnt any way for it to plug into the back of the headlight? anyone have any pics?

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Thanks! The light green has a female spade connector on the end, the other goes into the small harness.

Better pic of how everything is wired up:

I dont know if I mentioned it earlier, but I dont think I am getting power to the switch either, since it does not light up at all when the park or headlights are on. Is there a different set of wiring that feeds power to the switch?

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Looks like a dark green wire to me. Does your truck even have a horn on it? It should be bolted to the fender or core support in that area. I'm not sure on the exact location since neither of my trucks had horns when I got them. I just bolted a new horn to the inner fenderwell>

Re: Speedometer/gauge issues...

Sorry for any problems I may have caused, It was not my intention. I posted the clearer picture as soon as possible, since the previous one was taken after school at my apartment (Classes end at 8:15 PM). I only discovered the different connection was spliced on when I took the second picture, since I was at my parents house and had ample daylight and time to examine the harnesses and connections. Again, I am sorry for stepping on any toes or aggrivating anyone. Thank you for all the advice and suggestions thus far.
