steering column smoke ?

What are the chances something in the steering column electrical could smoke?

Could have sworn I saw a puff of smoke from the back of the wheel where it meets the plastic. I am looking at it all now and it looks a little involved? To get the column bare?? Whatever I saw came from inside the housing that has the key/tilt lever and the signal switch. Looked like it came from right behind the wheel.

Maybe I am seeing things but has me a little worried.

Re: steering column smoke ?

Blow by? I revved up with hand in no suction, nor blow out.

I did end up melting a vac hose to the boost solenoid. Truck seemed to over boost last night causing the intercooler to blow off the throttle body under boost. I looked on pass. Side and there is some oil seeping from back pcv connection. Nothing on driver side near steering column or no traces of oil to smoke. Kind of strange if you ask me.

I did just discover a ugly noise I been hearing which appears to be a nasty vibration/rattle @ the alternator..

Ya, it's got a Turbo

Probably your turn signal switch. Quite common for the contacts to "arc" a little bit and burn the old dried out grease that was used to lubricate the contacts. I'll bet you had just used your signals prior to seeing the elusive smoke.

Re: steering column smoke ?

Actually I pulled out of the post office and stepped into the throttle and seen what i thought was smoke. It seemed like it happened 2x when stepping on pedal. Pulling out a small puff emited, I though oh no.. Backed off gas, stepped back into it to keep with the flow of traffic, I did switch lanes to far right in case I needed to beach the truck on the side or do a emergency pull off. Saw another Small puff and chased it ever since. Never once have I caught it before thos .

I did notice some shit around the inner ring of the wheel. Looks like some type of soda that dried out or something. Looks sticky like soda syrup.( some type of previous spill?)

Haven't seen it again. Hope its a fluke.
