Still Waiting

So lets see here, I dropped my engine off at a machine shop early October where I was told 3-4 weeks tops to install lifter bushings and rebuild the heads, AGAIN (don't even get me started on these heads). I was given a quote of $1500-$1800, they were also going to re-tank everything. So here I am mid February with NOTHING. I'm so ****ing sick of this shit it is making want to just ditch the TY altogether and forget about cars.

I don't get what the deal is with local machine shops. If you get quick service they suck at the work, if you want decent machine work you have to wait for months and months. I wish these guys would have just said hey, we don't give a shit about your POS V6 we have V8's to build go somewhere else.

These guys have even screened my calls, for the last month I've been getting the "next week" routine. I am at the point of asking them what is done exactly, paying for that and getting my money back on the rest and just going back to my shitty speedy machine shop. Another reason I am so irritated about this is the fact that I had it at another machine shop last year where it sat for seven ****ing months. These two are supposedly the best in town.

If I do that I am quite sure they wont give me my money back, stupid me for paying up front. I'm sure I can get it out of them in small claims court but I don't have time for that mess. Guess I'll just have to wait.

I'd walk in there and tell them what's going to happen, not asking them what's happening.... :2cents:

Re: Still Waiting

Find out what work was done...pay for it then say I want the rest of the money for the work that hasn't been or we can have a meeting with my lawyer and yours...Then contact local BBB... then on your time off protest out front on the other side of the street with a sign with your own slogan....that's what I'd do....imo....

Get your stuff back as soon as you can.:2cents:

Try to get a refund if possible, does not sound like a reliable place.

First off, I would contact the consumer protection agency and BBB. They all can help you with litigation if need be. Sick both of them on that shady business for starters. Demand your stuff back and the money as they have not live up to thier contract, granted you have paperwork & receipts. Eitherway, MAKE F'en sure you go in there and state your case, the money you spent in their shop and the parts that they have. Demand your money and parts back NOW! If they don't, tell them that you have already contacted the BBB and CPA and they will have to deal with them...actually contat both CPA and BBB first to get advise of how to properly adress these ass holes.

I wish you lived out in the PNW. I worked for Art Morrison while I was in HS & built engines for 3 summers. I've built a ton of engines and it's easy. Oh well, Contact the BBB And CPA, follow their advsie and keep us all posted! OH yea, name of business?????? Fuc*Tard inc right :D

Mike get your stuff back and your hard earned $$ . Start calling around up in Denver . Try the Block Shop
first , it's just down the street from Cheatham's house . Tony does good work there with pretty quick turn around . You'll have better luck up here i think .

I would go to the shop and talk to them. Try to have a calm reasonable conversation with them. Explain how ling it has been at the shop. Ask what been done (get parts back with refund) or ask when can reasonable expect to finish the work.

If you only have 2 good machine shops in the area and you had a bad experience with other one as well, you may not be burn all your bridges. On a side note, a good machine shop in the area might be a good business to open, if the other two good ones can't deliver.

I'm with Dave on this one. Talk to them calmly. Let them know that the delay is putting you in a bind.

You sure don't want to take you machine work to a shop that you are not sure about them doing a good job. Or you could end up with a pile of ruined parts. If the works not right. The engine won't live. Can't take a chance with all that money invested in parts.

It's the same on the east coast!!! I waited for over eight months to get my block back. I called every week and stopped by every few weeks. I've always felt if I didn't I would have waited at least a year.

If they do good work I would suggest doing what others have and try and deal with them calmly!

Re: Still Waiting

Just got my block back after a year......I think part of it has to do with no one likes 4.3's. My guy said he doesnt do many, has to set the machines different, blah blah blah and wanted to wait to do more than one to make it worth it. He is really good and has already done other work on it, so I waited it out like a nice guy.....silly me.

He doesn't have the capability to do the lifter bores, apparently only two people in town do.

I just thought of this for the future, he does have the capability to do just about anything else, and what he can't do, he would send off, and they wouldnt **** him around for months... but by the next time you are doing something like this, he will likely be dead and gone

Can't do lifter bores? Yeah, but it's basically a small block chevy missing 2 holes.

There are only two machine shops in town that do lifter bores on a CNC, the rest of them use a Bridgeport.

I got my crap back Friday finally. I started going in there everyday just to see whats been done. From what I could see it was all done with the exception of assembling my heads. Every day it was oh I just got put pistons in this block or Oh I just gotta finish this engine on the dyno. I almost said dude, why don't you just put my shit together and get me out of here.

I decided to keep the peace and just push him with my annoying presence. Off subject, this guy looks IDENTICAL to John Cusak, I actually called him John the second time I met with him.

Next time I go to a machine shop I am going to make them write me an eta on completion and also make a list of parts I am giving them for whatever reason and make them sign that they have it. I haven't had a chance to go through everything yet but for some reason I have a feeling I am missing things. He didn't charge me the other $235 I was supposed to owe him for his time lapse but I would have far rather just paid that for stuff back on time.
