Every[/I] stock 4.3 and Chev rod I've observed have been forged. And that's thousands of rods.

That's what I thought.

Guess some people here do not know the difference?;)

Really? Thats interesting. I was under the impression they were.

they are the same i have them on my ty .and i built my motor .the problem is that ones you get 450 hp after a wild you'll want more 500 then 550 then 600 etc. if you are goint to build the motor spend a little more and buy good rod eagle h-beam are good and cheap.

Took the oil pan off tonite and the rods were blued from heat. None were broken but it was apparent they took some heat.

I think you may be mistaken. Standard 350 rods will not work. There may be aftermarket rods out there somewhere that are made for a custom crank for a sbc with 2.25" journals, but I've yet to see any. If you used rods for a 350, something was done to get them to fit and work correctly.

edit: Didn't the old Pontiac engines use a 2.25" journal on a 6.?" rod?

Re: stock rods how many hp?

I have a 1997 s10, the block is a 2000 4.3 block with STD bore Speedpro pistons, stock rods, and stock crank. Balanced rotating assembly.

I spoke with RPM today and they said 600hp mark needs nitrided crank, forged rods/pistons, and 4 bolt conversion.

For cost standpoint, the long block looks to be in awesome shape with the hatches still on the cylinder wall and no ridge. I'm probably gonna put it all back together and leave it at 400whp. I have 10,000 into and i'm kinda done with spending money on it, i wanna drive it more than i work on it.

Im pretty sure I heard the same thing from Campbell automotive. They siad the stock block can handle 700hp. Please correct me if Im wrong Nolan or Mark. I have been getting things wrong with what people have said or done lately. The other thing I might add is that might be the power it can take before it instantly breaks. It may not mean its going to be runnnig for very long at even 600hp. Thats just the way I see it. Good tunes seem to last a long time at any power level. Bad ones can break a fully built one.

Re: stock rods how many hp?

Have you guys seen blue connecting rods like that before? We assumed it was forged because cast wouldn't take that kind of abuse.

I have had it out one night after some mods and my 38mm was overcompensated so i hit 20psi at 5000rpm. Boost creep and hit 15,17,then 20psi at 5800rpm 3 or 4 times before i blew my intake manifold to pieces, most likely from the timing not being compensated and back fired through the intake.

Re: stock rods how many hp?

I've had the pan off twice before and i possibly never noticed it or they came recently. I'm gonna see if i can dig up pictures.

I've seen rods blue like that when the machinist heated the little end of the rod to make it easier to press the pin in. It doesn't hurt anything. Speedpro pistons have hi-limit pins. They are difficult to press into stock rods. It would be hard to blue the small end with pressed pins in a running engine. The pin doesn't rotate in the rod.

I'm guessing, but they were probably that way when the engine was assembled. You just didn't notice it. Or someone else put it togeather.
