Stock Ty Overboost issue

Mo' Boost Mo' Problems!
I am having issues with my Typhoon and an overboost issue. Truck is stock and I have driven the truck 7k miles DD with no issues. Recently I began having an issue with the truck blowing off the TB coupler. I replaced the middle bolt on the upper intercooler because it was missing and switched to 4" T-bolt clamps.

The coupler stopped popping off, but began overboosting to 20+ psi. Truck is all stock and was running great until the coupler started popping off. Before it held at solid 15 PSI of boost and felt very strong. I did a datalog, and it appears the wastegate is functioning as it should. the truck seems to be building boost much faster than normal.

What could be the cause of this? I don't believe anyone has messed with the wastegate rod, nor is the cat gutted. The Datalog shows I am having knock issues, as well as codes 35 and 44.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Stock Ty Overboost issue

Are you running a non oem boost gauge? Still running stock turbo to intercooler hose? I'd suggest getting a forge wastgate from Tom at sportmachines. ....I run one most of the time with the use of my stock boost solenoid with a oem truboost controller. ....I can turn off the boost controller and just run off the forge and it does a spectacular job controlling boost just by itself.

Re: Stock Ty Overboost issue

I am running a non-oem boost gauge. I feel throwing parts at it isn't going to fix the issue. Yeah, I could easily turn the wastegate rod back to reduce boost, but I'm not looking for a band aid. The wastegate was working great for 7k miles, and looking at my datalog, doesn't appear to be malfunctioning. I don't see a point in replacing something that isn't the issue. I am running the stock turbo to IC hose as well.

Re: Stock Ty Overboost issue

Code 35 is too high of an idle. It probably because some tried to adjust idle using the throttle body minimu air screw.

Code 44 is lean O2 which maybe due you overboost but it could indicate other issue like fuel pump or leaking vacuum lines going to the fuel pressure regulator or map sensor.

What is the condition of your vacuum lines?

I don't consider replacing a part with and updated better version throwing parts at a vehicle. ....truck is 20+ years old also I might add.....nothing lasts forever. Have you replaced the stock vacuum lines with new silicon lines or are they the factory line? If they are factory lines the plastic gets brittle over the years and with the heat it breaks. ...or if you even look at it wrong it will break...haha kidding. ...do you have a wideband on the system? If you really wanna get anal you could smoke the system with an evap. System smoker or do the bicycle tube test.

As others have mentioned, are your VAC lines to W/G actuator/turbo/solenoid OK? Also line to the MAP sensor ok? Could also be the MAP sensor failing or electrical contacts to/from it having high resistance.and giving eroneous readings.

Re: Stock Ty Overboost issue

Vacuum line going from the wastegate to the turbo popped off. Tossed a zip tie on it and it's good to go now! I'm still going to replace all the vacuum lines though. Some are old, some are silicon...
