Re: Sub Boxes

No box suggestion But the Kicker L5 (8") is a good speaker that doesn't req. alot of volumetric air space (vas)is abot .9 Cubic Ft. And thier depth is shallow ..... How good of a carpenter are you?

Re: Sub Boxes

I bought a pair of HiFonics 12's years ago. I want to say Centurion, but that might have been the model of amp... They only need .88 cu. ft.

I'm planning to (someday) make a box to fit behind the driver seat. It will also go above/behind the jack, and I'll mount the amp over there. I managed to fit a pair of Kicker 12's in an 84 regular cab Ranger, so I figure I can do this. It's just a matter of getting enough free time to work things out... The hardest part with the Ranger was actually the depth of the subs themselves.

Re: Sub Boxes

my friend and I built a box for my sy....It houses an eight inch sub....He did alot of algebra calculations before he started cutting....It has the proper cubic feet for that sub and sounds great....We spent alot of time sanding and working with body filler before painting and clearcoating it with leftover paint from when I painted my syclone....Also, the box has a 3" x 18" port on the side...if you want me to get you more photos or the dimensions of the box, just let me know...I was left with about 5 inches of storage space on either side of the enclosure....

Re: Sub Boxes

I want that box. You should make those and sell them. Do you have any problems w/ the sub hitting the back of the seat? I had two truck boxes in my old s10 and the back of the seats got torn up because the pressure from the subs. I had grills on the subs, but the air flow on the material caused problems I guess.

Re: Sub Boxes

I would be interested in more pics and the dimensions of the box. That looks sweet I've been debating on what kind of box to build for awhile now. I think I may have just found the solution.

Re: Sub Boxes

I'll get you guys the exact dimensions on the box....The box wasnt very expensive at all...what took the most time was the finish (paint)....the Digital Designs sub that we used has a huge magnet so it had to be mounted as low as possible to fit in the box....the box's air space was calculated for the single speaker we used....I guess you could use two subs that require less airspace each (one behind each seat)...the pain with mine was that the sub ended up directly behind the center console so I had to move my center console forward about 1/2"....If I had to do it again, I would probably do 2 less demanding 8 or 6 inch subs; one behind each seat....It pounds like mad as it is, but was alot of extra work moving the console to keep the speaker from contacting the plastic when the speaker moves in and out.....I wish I would have taken more pics of the process.....This guy is a master box designer/maker....he didnt build this the easy way...he designed my box with strength as his number one priority....this enclosure is being held in by our felty trim piece that you see above the box, and below our rear window....I just forced it under that trim and it held it perfectly.....

As for the comment above about selling them, that is totally doable if we build and ship them unpainted....I forget what he charged me to make this, but it was very affordable...I can get a price if anyone is interested....If we can raise a few orders in the form of some sort of gp, I can get them built and shipped as long as we can cover the costs here...I would think a minimum of 5 orders could pull this off....If I see any interest, I can have him make a "plain" duplicate of mine next week and I can take pics of the process and measure the depths of the enclosure and so on so you can plan on what subs to use and so the DIYers here can have photos of how to do there own...this box is only good for smaller subs without enormous magnets....wont work for 12" subs....just let me know and I can get it done.....

Re: Sub Boxes

Finding a speaker with a low V.A.S is easy, Finding a speaker that doesn't require alot of depth is easy. The hard part is finding a speaker that is a * happy medium * I only said the 8" L5 because of its small depth requirements.

Re: Sub Boxes

I've looked for those flat subs and can't find them. Do you have a link or anything? I wanna read up.

I'll need to get some money first, but I would love to have one of those boxes! When you say affordable, how do you mean??? I'll put my name in the hat to get the project started, but I can't afford something really exhuberant at the moment. :(

Re: Sub Boxes

If you are looking for a flat/narrow 10 in sub how about a Audiobahn awp310t? they are only 4.5 deep dual 2 ohm vc 1000 rms they hit pretty hard they came out with them for tight applications. just a suggestion!
