11 sec on stock engine & turbo

11 sec on stock engine & turbo

Thanx for the reply, Josh...
Congratulations on the payoff for your perseverance!!!

I'm just starting to 'push' my stock system...have #bar MAP, AFPR & Mike Lee's ultimate chip (no adjustment), 3" cat & muffler KB cold air intake w/ K&N, stock upper IC & trans cooler in front of the radiator instead of the stock lower.
I'm impressed w/ your alky inj results, and will add the kit w/ the adjustable pump controller here on the list.
As I understand it, tuning mostly is about fuel pressure adjustment to get 0 or min knock on Datamaster, maximizing alky inj effect and timing is left at stock setting?
Any other variables that need to be manipulated??
thanks and again, I add my congratulations to all the others who have recognized your achievement.

Raising Fuel pressure is a minor part of the equation. U don't really get a whole lot of improvement from just raising FP. U need an ECM scanner to keep track of O2 volts, which will tell U what's really happening. An Alky system can definitely help., but the main route to more performance is more Boost. And the main requirement in order to get more boost is more Octane. A chip w less advance can help also, but U give up something there also.

I tried to download the combos. but when I open the file I see a spreadsheet and one line of heiroglifics(sp). I'm obviously doing something wrong, but what? Jim

Ok now add engine builds with parts listed in categories of:
inexpensive, midrange, and high dollar. :D

It would be cool to have a basic rebuild list of parts to start from, for a stockish rebuild. Obviously some will want to spend the extra $ for JE pistons, as opposed to TRW's... hence the reason to divide it based on budget.

Then add to the list as the HP increases... like 4 bolt, cryo crank, ceramic coatings, bowtie block etc.

For example...... this build could be placed somewhere in the chart, and parts could be added or taken away in relation to its placement on the chart. Morgan, what are your goals for this build? Are you on a tight budget for the rebuild.

It would be extremely helpful for those of us that will be doing engine rebuilds, with various HP goals.

Anyone thats already rebuilt, feel free to put together a list of what you used and where in the chart you are, or intend to be. It would be great to see a couple different engine builds for an 11 sec typhoon to give an idea of what is being used for parts with regards to budget.

What about ported stock heads, I didn't see any provision for them on the spreadsheet. Do they have the potential to go faster than 12.50 (that's what is shown for stock heads)?

Thanks,
Galen

I have a generic browser friendly page to upload, unfortunately chitownsyty isn't cooperating with me... maybe soon I'll get it on the server.

Anyways, this spreadsheet was created with the YMMV clause - your mileage may vary. Kinda put together from what I've seen work out there, what the norm is. There are many exceptions.

I applaud anyone willing to try something new, but like all things, learn from those who have gone before you. What premises have been proven to work? I have seen MANY fail, giving crappy results. Tuning goes a LONG way... I can't stress that enough. A 10 second truck can be turned into a 15 second truck with a single byte in the chip changed probably....

So this spreadsheet is NOT to be read as "This is the ONLY way to get from point A to B" or "Brian says that I can't go that fast with such-and-such camshaft, so I won't even try"... but more as a quick reference. I can just about guarantee some of the combinations will work if executed properly - why? Because I've seen them work, I've tuned them. I can't speak for someone running Brodix heads with a huge cam and a GT61 turbo - I just haven't heard of anyone running that combination.

Regarding ported stock heads - sure, they'll help you go faster, but I'd never advise someone to use them, which is just my opinion. You could get a set of L35's just rebuilt, and they'll flow better than a mildly worked set of stockers. Or spend your money making Vortecs to fit, and make even better gains. Stock heads can go pretty fast - they've gone 11s, 10s even. It is more an exception than rule however.

Engine buildups with budget considered- not a bad idea - I'll leave that to someone else to do. My enthusiasm for Syty's has waned, not sure if it's temporary or permanent 8)

I like the tabbed layout Excel offers, which is why I used it. A nice table layout of parts needed in rebuild, and different columns for varying budgets would be nifty. MS OneNote is my new best friend actually, and is *awesome* for doing research for these kind of topics :D

A single byte could do it....

I have seen a distributor slip in James Sy - when it was running 11.4 . It ran , idled fine . Reved up good . Ran 15 second times.

Something very simple , made the truck run quiet a bit different.

I can give you a build on how not to go 11's in a Typhoon.

NWSTP
Dave,

Send me the file and I will put it up in the NWSTP site and link it back in this thread so it will be working again. Just like I did with the ChiTown Tech stuff.

if you need somewhere to put the site for free, I got all the room you need on the NWSTP server you can have.
