Well, I can't afford a Typhoon, so I'm making my own. I'm going to pick up my whole drivetrain this weekend, a long drive.

Has anyone tried the stock exaust pipes on a 2wd? any advice would be helpfull.

Will the sy/ty clusters and bezel bolt right into a normal s-10 dash. i've got the gauges and the bezel in the mail. I read a for sale tread saying he was selling brackets or mounts for the cluster. And if these are needed any idea where to find them.

I know i've got alot of work ahead of me but these questions have been bugging me.

you need the brackets and also the jumper harness the goes from the s-10 to the syty cluster.

try searching through the site. this question is up about every week. i tried doing a clone, but it was incredible amount of work. the dash harness form the blazer will not work with the harness to connect the syty gauge cluster. u will have to completly redo the wireing. and not to mention the wring you will have to do for the engin bay. you will be able to drop in the engin, u will not be alowed to go as low as u can with the 2wd drive, that is because the oil pan on the syty's are taller, being that the 2wd frame will give you more chasis clearence.. other than that good luck. but i would just save up and buy a real ty or sy. like i said i was 90% complete with mine, and the headach got to big and decided to quit (after X,XXX amount spent) and buy me a sy. it would have been much cheaper for me to do it the right way to begin with. that my 2cents.

This is my opinion, if your going to go the whole route (wheels, cladding, interior, engine) Its cheaper to buy a Typhoon. If you do just swap motor it will be traction limited and you will have more money invested in a blazer than its worth...(ie its worth more money in parts) A Typhoon will hold its value better, and they aren't that expensive.

Full conversion = not worth the time and $
Just a motor/tranny swap would be easier, but still not sure about cost vs. effort. That driveline couldn't have been cheap, have you considered selling that, and your blazer (maybe taking a loan) and buying a Ty?

If you just want a fast Blazer, why not do a V8 conversion? Cheap, easy power.

If you're getting a complete drivetrain, why not install the drivetrain into a 4x4 frame, then swap your body on to it later.....the exhaust will most likely not be compatible with a 2wd frame...where are you located??.....below are pictures of a complete typhoon drivetrain on a older blazer frame.....don't let it intimidate you, there's nothing to it....I wish someone would do this for a change rather than just talk about it.... :git:

I've done it. Drive it almost daily - except in the winter. And when it's not blown up like it is right now. I bought a wrecked ty, used the complete harness and cluster; had no real major problems. The engine bolted in fine - used ty mounts on 2.8L frame pads. Needed to notch the frame for the downpipe, and rebuilt the ty trans to run a 2wd tailshaft. Some other typical mods to the engine have resulted in a good end result. If you need any more help, pm me.

For all you guys that say there will not be enough traction, a 1.59 60 foot on et street radials is not too bad.

i have a different opinion...(coming from a person who had a blazer with ty motor interior dash etc.) its not as a bad as everyone feels. now i can only speek from the point of view of someone who does all his own work (paying for the labor would make the price go up ALOT) but it is a lot of work but tis not work that will kill you. i had my truck done in about a week and a half with lots a hours invested. i changed motor, dash board complete, rear diff, interior, and wheels, there was a lot of adjusting and massaging. i had alot of fun because i love to work on cars its what i do for a living and i learned alot about these trucks. in the end i had traction problems until i bought caltracs, then i needed a converter stock s10 ones dont do the motor and justice. it wont be close to the amount of fun and the feelings of all wheel drive and to have the cladding and everyone telling you WOW is that a real TY or SY. but if your up to it its a good learning experience.

but they are right syty's have value and in the end when you add up your bills you will see you could of probably bought a real one. i got a good deal and it almost didnt cost me much.
but hey what do i know....

I've done 2 v-8 swaps in s-10's and decided this would be different and cool as hell when it is done.

Yes, I probably could buy a Typhoon, but thats not as much fun as doing the swap.

Also this is going to be sort of sleeper looking, asides from my zr1 wheels and lowerd. No loud v-8 to tip people off no body cladding to identify it.

My Ty motor to 97 Sonoma is almost complete and it has not really been that big of a deal. I will have less than $3500 in it including the motor. The only problems that I have had is finding some minor Syty parts. In most cases I tryed to buy new parts. But overall I am really excited about the truck because it will be a sleeper. And by the way I did not use the Syty ECM. I used my original one all is good.

It's a fun project and a great sleeper. I installed a ty drivetrain in a 4dr Blazer and I love the truck. Coming from someone with limited mechanical skills, I accomplished 90% by myself. As long as you have the wiring diagrams, it's not hard. Although the member are irght when they say it's not worth it to do a complete conversion including body kit. In my opinion, it is well worth it when building a sleeper. I also got the same advise from a friend to put in a V8. I agree with you...you will trick more people because you can't hear the turbo at idle. Have fun with it...it's a good project!!! You can cure the traction problems by using caltracks. Just think about it....the local drag strip cars are 99.9% rear wheel drive. Enjoy!!
