does anyone know where to buy a crate motor for a sy/ty? does anyone make a crate motor for them? im getting a settlement soon and want a well built motor for my sy
not sure where i could look. im hoping for about 350 hp, maybe more, motor thats fairly "reliable".
or can i put it to you like this, if you had 20k to spend and your motor was on its last legs what would you buy and who would you go to. kind of a 20 thousand dollar wish list i guess. any suggestions? thanks in advance

Re: syclone/typhoon crate motor?

I did have $20k to spend beginning of the year when I won my settlement from a car dealer.

I bought the Sy, a tool box, 2 guns, paid off my Z28, and still have around $4k in the bank.

Whats wrong with your engine now? I'd work on it, maybe rebuild it with some good parts and then just make it fast. No need in scraping the stock motor just because a bearing is gone or something.:2cents: :2cents:

oops, sorry about the wrong forum post, and wow only took 2 minutes to be moved. you moderators are good huh
motor is tapping from what ive been told is either a main bearing, cam bearing or a flat lobe on the cam, or a collapsed lifter, the motor was rebuilt 10k ago with forged rods, forgedpistons, chromo rings, chamfered bearings. the turbo bearings went after the motor was rebuilt and now its got very low oil pressure, the block is a little banged up on the cylinder that threw the rod...
like i said this is more of a 20k wish list i guess
thanks for the input soo far

contact Jwaller or check out Rockford Racecraft, they build and install, around $6K for a "factory" SyTy motor, but it has forged H-beam rods, pistons, and strengthened caps, and they are bored out to 267CI. http://www.rockfordracecraft.com .

P.S.- they also install the engines in-house, the only extra costs are for belts, hoses, little stuff.

Pencil written baby...

SuperSportS10 here on the forums had a SyTy short block for sale still in the crate.

There are a few vendors building motors right now. RaceprovenMotors, TurboTime, McCoy and Waller. I haven't heard anything bad about any of them thus far.

When you say tapping what do you mean? I know my truck makes a ticking noise, that's noisy lifters right? I've heard that it is a common problem of SY/TY. Anyone have any input for me?

Re: syclone/typhoon crate motor?

the tapping i dont think is noisy lifters or valves. i had a stethoscope and only found noise coming from the drivers side rocker stud closest to the firewall, sounded like a grinding actually. ive had the motor throw a rod once before when it sounded like a valve tick and i ignored it.
as for Rockford Racecraft do they build motors with more Hp and Tq than stock? i would love to just ship them the whole truck and build it the rite way.

I just got a motor installed by a mechanic that works with GM and he ordered an engine from Jasper Engines in Indiana. It has a 3 year 75K warranty which made it worth the extra money.

I bet it will last 3000miles at most.. jasper engines are known to suck in these trucks..
